Chico Municipal Airport in northern California provides both general aviation and limited commercial services to the surrounding region. This free scenery add-on, created by Phillip Coyle, focuses on enhancing the depiction of KCIC within Microsoft Flight Simulator X by introducing highly accurate ground layouts and carefully placed default library objects. The modifications aim to reflect real-world dimensions, ensuring a more authentic representation of this airfield that lies near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

Airport Layout and Ground Adjustments

All taxiways, runways, and parking spaces have been reconfigured to align with documented specifications for Chico Municipal Airport. In order to accomplish this level of detail, the developer utilized aerial imagery so that distances and angles match the actual facilities. Consequently, virtual pilots can now expect consistent touchdown zones and an overall layout that closely mirrors the real-world environment.

Refined Surfaces and Markings

This package adjusts runway and taxiway geometry, adds accurate apron placements, and updates markings to enhance ground operations. These refinements were made to minimize discrepancies between the simulation and the real aerodrome setting, offering more realistic experiences especially during taxi and ramp maneuvers.

Default Library Object Placement

Numerous objects from the default FSX scenery library have been strategically placed around the airport, adding local character to the area. Hangars, buildings, and other visual cues have been positioned to enhance immersion while still respecting actual positioning. To see these items fully, it is recommended to set scenery complexity to a minimum of NORMAL.

Production Tools Utilized

To compile the accompanying BGL files, Airport Design Editor was used, allowing a methodical approach to adjusting the airfield’s layout data. One file deals with the base layout modifications, and another takes care of terrain-related changes for the airport environment.

Installation Instructions

  1. Place the files KCIC_ADE.BGL and KCIC_ADE_CVX.BGL into the “Addon Scenery/Scenery” folder located in your main Microsoft Flight Simulator X directory.
  2. Once you launch the simulator, the newly updated airport layout will take effect automatically.

Removing the Add-on

  1. Simply eliminate both KCIC_ADE.BGL and KCIC_ADE_CVX.BGL from the same “Addon Scenery/Scenery” directory.
  2. When you restart the simulator, Chico Municipal Airport will revert to its default appearance.

Important Notes

BGL Files
These files deliver new data for KCIC and are entirely freeware, offered without any expressed guarantees.
Object Visibility
To see placed buildings and airport objects, ensure scenery density is set to at least NORMAL or higher within FSX.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
