Editorial

As a virtual pilot, you might be shocked to find that you will be spending a lot of time hanging around airports and waiting for your time to take off etc. if you are like this, you might have noticed that the consistency in detail and design throughout FSX for airports is limited to say the least.

I’ve been underwhelmed by airports both major and minor and it was one of the biggest disappointments for me, taking away from the whole experience on quite a dramatic level and ruining the overall atmosphere for me on so many different occasion.

Thankfully, this modification – Airport Environment UpgradeMX – makes a massive difference to the way that the airports look. Whether it’s a tiny little local airport or one of the biggest in the country you are in, you will find that they now look far more complete than they did in the past.

This manages to give you such a massive range of updates and improvements that it can be quite hard to keep up with them all, but they all improve everything from the overall detail to the way that lighting is handled. Now, the lighting in an airport will be realistic and as vibrant as it should be – instead of needing the brightness specs pushed right up you will be able to come in and land at the airport without the typical problems that are caused by the minimal levels of lighting that were available in vanilla FSX.

For those who are looking to find a way of actually enjoying their time in airports again, and wanting to see all of the little changes and improvements first hand, this mod is a must-have. It does not particularly affect performance, either, so even those with a mildly outdated PC should still be more than capable of using FSX without any real problems.

Are you sick of airports looking so bare and not having the right kind of lighting inside them? Then this allows for you to get that put in place without any real problems, making it so much easier for you to actually see where you are going when you turn up for a flight at night!

However, a big change that has been introduced in this mod is the changes that come around depending on what season you are flying in. in the past, the difference between autumn and winter, for example, could be quite hard to tell in some places. This, however, manages to capture all of that with relatively minimal problems. Now, airports will act to the changes in the environment and make it much easier for you to actually enjoy the entire atmosphere as one thing.

The changes on the runways and the buildings is very impressive, giving you airports – regardless of their size or their stature – that look the part and really carry the nature and style of the real thing to give you the most impressive finish possible. To me, this is a very important aspect of being in a flight simulator and this will easily bring everything together for those who need the environment to stand out as much as the flying itself.
