STORY:

I attended Southwest Baptist University in 1962/63 and had to drop out due to lung surgery. In 1966 I received my private pilot license from St Louis Downtown Airport and Sisk Aviation. I decided to attend a class renunion in Bolivar and Bill Sisk told me to fly the brand new Cessna 150 with extended range tanks. I would not have to fuel up! The flight went smoothly in the shiny new aircraft...UNTIL it was time to leave on that hot, humid summer afternoon. I checked my weights and takeoff data. The takeoff would be OK on the grass runway (at that time) BUT there were 50' trees near the end of the runway. I did a normal soft field takeoff (I was one of the best at it) and the liftoff went smoothly... picking up speed I pulled the wheel back, barely missed the trees, leveled off and dropped near the field on the other side to pick up more speed and then settled in for my climb!

Those tanks made the aircraft wobbly until in the air but she was a sweet machine!

Happy flyin'.

Jimmy.
