Airbus passenger aircraft usually carry about 100 to 545 passengers in normal airline layouts. The A220-100 commonly seats 100–120, while the double-deck A380 seats about 545 in Airbus’s reference layout and is certified for up to 853 passengers. The exact figure depends on variant, cabin and airline configuration.

These figures are planning ranges, not guaranteed capacities for every airframe. A published maximum assumes a suitable high-density cabin, emergency-exit arrangement, crew complement and regulatory approval. This is why the A330’s headline maximum is much higher than the seating most passengers encounter.

Freighters and corporate aircraft should not be compared using this table. A dedicated freighter has no normal airline passenger capacity, while an Airbus Corporate Jet may carry only a small party despite using an airliner-sized fuselage.
How many passengers can an A380 carry?
An Airbus A380-800 can carry up to 853 passengers, although most airline configurations seat roughly 400 to just over 600 people; Airbus’s reference figure is about 545.
The 853-passenger figure represents a maximum-density all-economy configuration across both decks. It is not the seat count passengers should expect when booking an A380 flight. Business-class suites, premium economy, larger galleys, bars and other cabin facilities reduce the total considerably.

What is the Airbus A220 passenger capacity?
The A220-100 typically carries 100–120 passengers and has a published maximum of 135, while the longer A220-300 usually seats 120–150 and can be configured for up to 160.
Both use a five-abreast economy cabin, normally arranged two seats on one side of the aisle and three on the other. Premium seating, generous pitch or larger service areas can push an airline’s count below the typical range.
A common mistake is quoting 160 as the capacity of every A220. That number applies to a maximum-density A220-300, not the shorter A220-100 or every airline configuration. The A220-100 is the smallest standard passenger model in Airbus’s modern range, although the older A318 often carried fewer people.
Why can the same Airbus model have different seat counts?
Two aircraft with the same model name can differ by dozens of seats because airlines choose their own cabins and may operate several layouts within one fleet.
- Cabin classes: Lie-flat business seats and premium-economy rows consume more floor space than standard economy seating.
- Seat pitch: Reducing the distance between rows creates room for additional seats, subject to certification and cabin-safety requirements.
- Galleys and lavatories: Service areas, wardrobes, accessible facilities and crew-rest compartments displace passenger rows.
- Doors and emergency exits: The approved exit arrangement places a firm limit on the number of occupants.
- Aircraft mission: Long-haul and ultra-long-haul layouts tend to allocate more space to premium cabins, rest areas and catering.
- Operator choices: Some seats may be blocked, removed or reserved even though they appear on a generic aircraft diagram.
Why are A320 and A321 capacities often confused?
The A320 and A321 belong to the same aircraft family, but the A321 has a longer fuselage and carries more passengers. Which passenger-capacity figure should you use?
Use the airline’s exact seat map for a real flight, typical seating for aircraft comparisons and the approved configuration only for regulatory or operational work.

Maximum seating does not guarantee that every seat can be occupied on every route. Fuel load, baggage, cargo, runway performance, weather and take-off weight can impose a lower practical limit.
For simulator loading, a mistake we see constantly is selecting the maximum passenger count and then adding full baggage separately when the add-on’s passenger mass already includes an allowance for luggage. Check how the payload manager defines each station before calculating weight and balance.

A civil passenger aeroplane can carry one passenger in a small two-seater or several hundred in an airliner. Regional aircraft commonly seat about 30–100, single-aisle jets roughly 100–240 and twin-aisle airliners about 200–600 in airline service.
