Fix an aircraft banking left in FS2004 by checking joystick calibration, conflicting controls, trim, fuel balance and normal propeller torque.
In FS2004, a persistent left bank usually comes from off-centre joystick input, duplicate aileron or rudder assignments, aileron trim set for a left roll, or normal single-engine propeller effects at high power and low airspeed. Centre the controls, test in calm weather with a default aircraft, then calibrate the controller and remove conflicts.
How do I isolate the cause of a left bank?
A clean default-aircraft test separates controller faults from normal aircraft behaviour or a faulty add-on.
- Start a fresh flight. Use the default Cessna 172, calm weather and equal fuel in both wing tanks. Turn off the autopilot and avoid a saved flight, which may retain trim and system settings.
- Test in stable cruise. Climb to a safe altitude, establish normal cruise speed and release the controls. Do not diagnose the problem during take-off or a steep climb, when propeller effects are strongest.

- Test without the controller. Disable joystick input or restart FS2004 with the joystick, yoke and pedals disconnected. If the bank disappears when flying by keyboard, the fault is in the hardware, calibration or assignments.
- Compare another aircraft. If a default jet also rolls left, suspect controller input. If it happens mainly in a high-power climb with a single-engine propeller aircraft, the left-turning tendency is probably normal.

How do I fix an off-centre joystick or yoke?
If the aircraft flies straight with joystick input disabled, recalibrate the device and add only enough null zone to suppress centre noise.

A mistake we see constantly is leaving the same axis assigned to several devices. A gamepad, throttle mini-stick, joystick twist grip and rudder pedals can all send unwanted input even when they are not being touched. Review each detected controller and remove duplicate or conflicting flight-control assignments.
Do not use a large null zone or permanent aileron trim merely to hide a worn controller. That makes the aircraft less responsive and leaves the underlying input fault in place.
Is a left bank normal in a propeller aircraft?
Yes, a moderate left-turning tendency is normal in many conventional single-engine propeller aircraft, especially during take-off and climb.
Propeller torque contributes directly to left roll, while P-factor and spiralling slipstream mainly produce left yaw that can develop into roll. These effects increase with high power, low airspeed and high angle of attack. Apply enough right rudder to keep the aircraft coordinated and use aileron only as required to hold the desired bank.
The tendency should become much weaker in settled cruise. FS2004's realism settings for torque and P-factor can be reduced temporarily as a diagnostic test, but disabling them is not the correct fix for a controller problem.
Why does only one FS2004 aircraft bank left?
If only one aircraft is affected, check its trim, loading, engines and flight model rather than changing global controller calibration.
- Return aileron and rudder trim to neutral where those controls are fitted.
- Check that the left and right wing tanks contain similar amounts of fuel and that payload is not heavily offset.
- In a twin-engine aircraft, confirm that both engines have equal throttle, propeller and mixture settings and that neither engine has failed.
- Disengage the autopilot and load a fresh flight rather than a saved situation.
- If it is an add-on, compare it with an untouched copy. Incorrect flight-dynamics or trim values can create a permanent roll.
What if the aircraft banks only with the autopilot on?
A bank that appears only under autopilot control is usually being commanded by the selected heading or navigation mode.
Check the heading bug, NAV source and active autopilot mode, then disengage the autopilot and hand-fly the aircraft. An add-on panel may use a custom autopilot gauge, so a problem limited to one aircraft can originate in that panel rather than FS2004's controller settings.
Is the aircraft banking or yawing left?
If the wings remain nearly level while the nose moves left, the primary problem is yaw rather than bank.
