Do not assume an MSFS 2020 weather engine supports MSFS 2024 merely because ordinary aircraft or scenery can sometimes transfer. Weather injection depends on simulator-specific interfaces, so the exact product build must name the simulator release.

X-Plane users should try the simulator's own real-weather downloader before adding another engine. It is included, avoids plugin conflicts and is adequate when the main requirement is automatic real-world conditions.
xEnviro is the stronger alternative when its supported X-Plane release matches your installation and you specifically want its cloud and atmospheric rendering. Check this before buying or installing it: an add-on supporting one X-Plane generation or graphics API may not work correctly with another.
External engines retain more value in FSX and Prepar3D because their native weather systems are older. Why does injected weather not exactly match the METAR?
A METAR is a point observation, not a complete three-dimensional model of the atmosphere. It reports conditions near one airport at a particular time; it does not define the exact shape of every cloud, the weather between stations or the complete upper-air wind profile.
Weather engines must turn those limited observations into cloud volumes, visibility layers and transitions. Compare the simulator with a report from the same station and timestamp. A different cloud arrangement is normal, while stale pressure, wind or temperature may indicate that updates have stopped.
How do I prevent weather-engine conflicts?
Most failures come from incompatible editions or more than one application trying to control the atmosphere. Diagnose the installation in this order:
- Confirm compatibility. Match the engine to the exact simulator, release, operating system and platform. A PC injector cannot be installed on Xbox or PlayStation.
- Test the simulator alone. Verify that default weather loads before enabling an external application. This separates a simulator service problem from an add-on problem.
- Run one weather authority. Disable Active Sky and any other injector before starting its replacement. Two engines can cause cycling winds, flashing clouds and repeated weather redraws.
- Use the required in-simulator mode. Some engines require a particular weather source or preset while they inject data. Follow the instructions for that product rather than leaving another live-weather mode active.
- Check stalled updates. If conditions never change, inspect the report timestamp, connector status, firewall permissions and any network settings used between the simulator and weather application.
A sky-texture or cloud-visual package is not automatically a weather engine. It may change how clouds look while leaving the simulator, Active Sky or another injector responsible for wind, pressure, temperature and cloud placement.
