ActiveSky FS works with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PC. See which version you need, console limits and fixes when weather will not inject.
Yes. ActiveSky FS supports Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Windows PC, provided you install a build that explicitly includes MSFS 2024 compatibility. It runs as an external weather engine connected to the simulator; older Active Sky products will not work, and Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro cannot run it.
Which Active Sky version works with MSFS 2024?
ActiveSky FS, usually shortened to ASFS, is the product intended for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Active Sky editions made for FSX, Prepar3D or X-Plane are separate products and cannot inject weather into MSFS 2024.
Use an ASFS installer or update whose release notes explicitly list MSFS 2024. An older installation that only recognises Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 may connect incorrectly, install its companion files into the wrong location or fail to offer the required weather-control mode. Our breakdown of live-weather engines and their platform support explains how ActiveSky FS fits alongside the other options.
ActiveSky FS does not replace the simulator's graphics engine. It supplies and controls meteorological conditions, while MSFS 2024 still renders the clouds, precipitation, visibility and lighting.
Does Active Sky work on Xbox or PlayStation?
ActiveSky FS is a Windows desktop application, so its MSFS 2024 integration is limited to the PC version.
| MSFS 2024 platform | ActiveSky FS support | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | Yes | The external ASFS client can connect to the simulator and control weather. |
| Xbox Series X|S | No | Xbox cannot run the required Windows application or external connection components. |
| PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro | No | The console version cannot run the Windows ASFS client. |
Buying the simulator through the Microsoft ecosystem does not by itself mean it is the Xbox edition: ASFS can be used with MSFS 2024 running on a Windows PC, but not with the game running on an Xbox console.
How do you set up ActiveSky FS with MSFS 2024?
The reliable method is to install the MSFS 2024-compatible ASFS build and let its installer configure the required connection components rather than copying an old MSFS 2020 installation.
- Close the simulator before installing or updating ActiveSky FS.
- Select Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 when the installer or first-run configuration asks which simulator to use. Check any detected package location carefully if both MSFS 2020 and 2024 are installed.
- Install the supplied simulator component if the ASFS package includes one. Do not assume a connector left in the MSFS 2020 Community folder will also be visible to MSFS 2024.
- Launch MSFS 2024 and ASFS, then wait until ASFS reports a simulator connection before judging the weather.
- Choose the correct operating mode. Use ASFS weather-control or preset mode when you want it to inject conditions; passive mode is for briefing and monitoring and will not replace the simulator's weather.
- Verify the result by comparing the reported wind, pressure, visibility and nearby station data with the conditions shown in the cockpit. Allow time for a normal weather transition.
Why is Active Sky connected but not changing the weather?
A connected status only confirms communication with MSFS 2024; it does not prove that ActiveSky FS is the active weather source.
- Passive mode is selected: switch to the ASFS weather-control mode if you expect it to inject weather.
- MSFS Live Weather is still in control: do not run native Live Weather and ASFS injection as competing active sources. Use one weather controller at a time.
- The connector is in the wrong Community folder: this commonly happens on PCs that retain separate MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 package locations.
- The ASFS build predates MSFS 2024 support: update the desktop client and any supplied simulator component together.
- Another weather add-on is active: disable its weather-control functions rather than letting two applications repeatedly overwrite the same conditions.
- The flight time does not match the requested data: check whether ASFS is using live, historical or manually selected weather and compare that with the simulator's date and time.
- The transition is still under way: avoid repeatedly switching presets or weather sources, as that can restart the change before conditions settle.
Should you use Active Sky or MSFS 2024 Live Weather?
Choose ActiveSky FS when you want stronger weather briefing, historical-weather selection, route-planning information and more control over the conditions; use native Live Weather when simplicity, console support and direct simulator integration matter most.
ASFS cannot replace MSFS 2024's cloud rendering, so it should not be bought solely in the expectation of new cloud models or textures. Our assessment of Active Sky's planning and historical-weather benefits covers the practical reasons to use it, while our comparison of MSFS 2024 weather options helps distinguish a weather engine from visual atmosphere and preset add-ons.
