Compare the best KSFO scenery add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, including airport, landmark and conflict advice.
For the strongest all-round KSFO upgrade in Microsoft Flight Simulator, we recommend Flightbeam Studios’ KSFO: Captain’s Edition. It replaces the airport with detailed terminals, stands, ground textures and custom objects. Keep Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020’s Premium Deluxe handcrafted KSFO if value and simplicity matter more, and add city landmarks separately for better Bay Area flying.
Which KSFO scenery is best?
Flightbeam Studios’ KSFO: Captain’s Edition is our first choice for a complete San Francisco International Airport replacement, provided it is supported on your simulator version and platform.
| Scenery | Best for | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Flightbeam Studios KSFO: Captain’s Edition | The best overall balance of terminal detail, apron coverage, airport objects and visual consistency | More demanding than stock scenery; verify MSFS 2024 and console availability before buying |
| BMWorld and AmSim KSFO | An alternative full-airport interpretation where its represented layout, visual style or platform availability suits you better | It replaces KSFO rather than enhancing another airport package, so never install it alongside Flightbeam |
| MSFS 2020 Premium Deluxe KSFO | No additional purchase and lower complexity | Less comprehensive than the leading third-party replacements and tied to the relevant edition entitlement |
| Orbx Landmarks San Francisco City Pack | Improving the skyline, bridges and wider Bay Area around the airport | It is city scenery, not a replacement for KSFO’s terminals, taxiways or stands |
Flightbeam earns our overall recommendation because it treats the airport as one coherent site rather than concentrating detail on a single terminal. BMWorld and AmSim is a credible alternative, but choose between the two using daylight screenshots of taxi markings, gate areas and the represented airport layout. Sunset promotional images can hide weak ground work.
Storage size and object count do not prove quality. Look for accurate taxiway signs, sensible parking assignments, clean runway profiles, working jetways and an update history that reflects changes at the real airport. Our criteria for comparing MSFS airport and regional scenery cover these wider buying considerations.
What is the best San Francisco scenery combination?
The best combination is one KSFO airport replacement plus no more than one San Francisco city or landmark package.
- Maximum detail: Flightbeam KSFO with Orbx Landmarks San Francisco, after checking that neither package duplicates objects supplied by a World Update or photogrammetry.
- Balanced performance: Flightbeam KSFO alone, with Microsoft’s online world data enabled for the surrounding city.
- No additional cost: Use the handcrafted KSFO included with MSFS 2020 Premium Deluxe, or the stock airport supplied by your edition, before deciding what is genuinely missing.
- Freeware route: Check our native MSFS scenery and mods library, but confirm that any package is specifically labelled for Microsoft Flight Simulator rather than FSX or Prepar3D.
A city pack improves the view beyond the airport boundary; it does not correct KSFO parking positions or taxiways. If buildings or bridges appear twice, temporarily disable the city package and photogrammetry separately to identify which layer overlaps the default scenery.
Will MSFS 2020 KSFO scenery work in MSFS 2024?
Many MSFS 2020 packages can load in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, but compatibility is not guaranteed merely because the older installer completes successfully.
Changes to materials, terrain, jetways, airport exclusions and streamed default scenery can produce missing objects, sunken aprons or duplicated buildings. Prefer a package or update explicitly marked for MSFS 2024, and check whether required libraries are supplied or installed separately.
On PC, external packages normally use the Community folder or their supported installer. Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro cannot use manually copied PC packages; the scenery must be offered for that console through the in-simulator Marketplace. A PC purchase does not automatically establish console availability or entitlement.
How do I prevent duplicate buildings and jetways at KSFO?
Duplicate KSFO objects almost always mean that two airport definitions are active at once.
- Keep one airport replacement. Remove or disable every other package containing KSFO, including old freeware and trial installations.
- Check bundled airport content. If the third-party documentation identifies a conflict with the handcrafted Premium Deluxe airport, disable only that individual KSFO package in the simulator’s content library. Do not remove broad base or world packages.
- Test city scenery separately. Landmark packs can remain installed when their coverage stops outside the airport, but disable them temporarily if bridges, towers or waterfront objects are doubled.
- Reload in clear daylight. Inspect terminal façades, jetways, the control tower, runway thresholds and taxiway junctions. Clear the rolling cache only when stale terrain or streamed world data appears to be involved; it does not normally fix two active airport packages.
Other warning signs include flickering apron textures, two sets of taxiway signs, gates occupying the same stand and raised or sunken runway sections. If KSFO disappears entirely after removing a conflict, follow our package, dependency and cache troubleshooting steps.
Can older FSX or Prepar3D KSFO scenery be installed?
No. Legacy FSX and Prepar3D scenery cannot simply be copied into the MSFS Community folder. Older compiled scenery, models, materials and airport data follow different SDK requirements; direct installation commonly results in missing objects, incorrect elevations or no visible scenery at all.
Conversion means rebuilding and testing the package rather than renaming folders or files. Our explanation of what is involved in converting legacy scenery to MSFS covers the limitations. For a dependable KSFO installation, use a package created or officially updated for the Microsoft Flight Simulator version you run.
