How do I choose compatible scenery?
Choose scenery that explicitly lists Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 support whenever possible. A general “MSFS” label does not always confirm which edition was tested.
- Check the covered location: Avoid installing two enhancements for the same airport or city. Duplicate runways, flickering buildings and overlapping ground textures are common results.
- Read the dependency notes: Some packages require an object library or an official world package to display every model.
- Match the scenery type to your needs: Airport packages improve a specific ICAO location, landmark packs add individual structures, and aerial or terrain packages alter a much wider area.
- Consider storage and performance: High-resolution aerial imagery can be large, while a highly detailed airport may affect frame rate more than a simple landmark pack.
Can MSFS 2020 scenery work in MSFS 2024?
Some MSFS 2020 scenery works in MSFS 2024, particularly conventional packages built with standard simulator assets, but it should not be assumed compatible. Custom ground materials, animations, terrain edits, dependencies and older aerial imagery are more likely to cause trouble.
Test older scenery one package at a time and keep it easy to remove. If the listing does not mention MSFS 2024, treat compatibility as unconfirmed rather than guaranteed.
How do I install downloaded MSFS 2024 scenery?
Manually downloaded scenery is installed through the PC version’s Community folder. Our full MSFS 2024 scenery installation instructions explain how to locate the correct folder for different installations.
- Download the archive and read any included instructions or dependency notes.
- Extract the archive rather than placing the compressed ZIP or RAR file in the simulator.
- Find the actual package folder containing files such as
manifest.jsonandlayout.json. Some archives contain an extra wrapper folder or several separate packages. - Copy each package directly into the MSFS 2024
Communityfolder. - Restart the simulator and load the affected airport or area to check it.
Marketplace content is managed inside Microsoft Flight Simulator and should not be copied into the Community folder. Xbox and PlayStation users cannot install ordinary PC scenery archives; console scenery must be obtained through the simulator’s own content system.
Why is my downloaded scenery not appearing?
Most missing scenery is caused by an incorrect folder, a nested package or an unresolved dependency rather than a graphics setting.
- The archive was not extracted: MSFS cannot load a compressed download placed directly in
Community. - The package is one folder too deep: Open the installed folder and check that the package files are near its root, not buried inside another identically named directory.
- You used the wrong Community folder: MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 can have separate package locations, and a custom installation may place them elsewhere.
- A required library is absent: Recheck the download description for dependencies.
- Another add-on covers the same location: Temporarily remove the competing airport or regional package and restart the simulator.
- The scenery is not compatible: Remove older MSFS 2020 packages that cause loading errors, missing textures or malformed terrain.
What MSFS 2024 scenery should I download first?
Start with one airport or region you know well, then test it before adding more packages. This makes conflicts much easier to identify than installing a large scenery collection all at once.
