Buy the aircraft that matches how you actually fly and how much cockpit preparation you enjoy. “Study level” is marketing shorthand rather than a formal certification, so judge the simulated systems and limitations rather than the label.
- For Airbus airline operations: choose Fenix in a compatible PC installation of Microsoft Flight Simulator, or ToLiss in X-Plane 12. Both reward learning normal procedures and automation logic.

Will a payware aircraft work in my simulator version?
A payware aircraft works only when its exact simulator release, operating system and hardware platform are supported. Similar names do not make products interchangeable.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 runs on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, while MSFS 2020 remains a PC and Xbox simulator. Add-ons requiring an external desktop application cannot run on consoles, and Marketplace availability can differ between platforms.
An MSFS 2020 aircraft may be usable in MSFS 2024 through compatibility support without being native to the newer simulator. Confirm that the developer describes the aircraft as supported, not merely that other users have managed to load it.
The same warning applies elsewhere. X-Plane 11 aircraft can have incompatible plugins, lighting or flight-model behaviour in X-Plane 12. Prepar3D add-ons commonly target one or two major versions, while old FSX installers may rely on activation services or components that no longer behave reliably on a modern PC.
- Match the exact simulator: look for an explicit release name, not a generic reference to “MSFS”, “X-Plane” or “Prepar3D”.

Why does a payware aircraft fail to load or work properly?

Communityfolder unless the documentation specifically instructs you to do so. - The cockpit is dark or switches do nothing: check whether the aircraft uses a companion application and ensure ordinary file and network access has not been blocked by security software. Do not disable security protection globally.
- Throttles, spoilers or flight controls move by themselves: create an aircraft-specific controller profile, remove duplicate axis assignments and disable assistance features that conflict with custom systems.
- The simulator stutters or crashes: test with unrelated community add-ons removed, then reduce texture, traffic and avionics-related load one setting at a time. Complex aircraft often expose an existing memory or main-thread bottleneck.
- The flight plan contains discontinuities or rejected waypoints: check for mismatched navigation-data cycles and route formats before blaming the flight-management system.
Is payware always better than freeware?
