Cast an Oculus or Meta Quest headset to a PC and fix missing devices, black video, lag or no audio while casting.
To cast a Meta Quest headset to a PC, put both devices on the same local network, sign in to Meta’s web casting page in a supported browser, then open Camera > Cast in the headset and choose Computer. This mirrors the Quest view; it does not create a Quest Link PC-VR connection.
How to cast a Meta Quest to your PC
The standard PC method is wireless browser casting, which requires neither a USB cable nor the Meta phone app.
- Connect both devices to the same network. The Quest must use the same local network as the PC. A wired PC is fine when its Ethernet and the headset’s Wi-Fi are connected through the same router.
- Open Meta’s Quest casting page. Use a supported desktop browser such as Chrome or Edge, then sign in with the Meta account being used by the headset. Keep this page open.
- Open the casting controls in Quest. Press the Meta or Oculus button on the right controller, open Camera, and select Cast. Depending on the headset software, Camera may instead appear in the app library.
- Select the PC. Choose Computer, followed by Next or Start if prompted. The browser should begin showing the headset’s view after a short delay.
- Stop casting when finished. Return to the headset’s casting panel and select Stop casting, or close the casting session in the browser.
Original Quest headsets carrying the Oculus branding use the same basic process. Oculus Rift and Rift S are different: they are PC-rendered headsets, so their software or the running game supplies the monitor mirror rather than Quest browser casting.
Is Quest casting the same as Quest Link?
No. Casting sends the headset’s existing picture to the PC, while Quest Link sends a PC-rendered VR application to the headset.

Why does my PC not appear in the Quest casting list?
A missing computer is usually caused by network isolation, an account mismatch or an unsupported browser session.
- Leave guest Wi-Fi: Guest networks commonly prevent wireless devices from communicating with one another, even when the network name looks correct.
- Check the Meta account: Sign the browser into the same account or active headset profile used by Quest.
- Keep the headset awake: Casting may not initialise while the headset is sleeping or waiting at a profile-selection screen.
- Try a normal browser window: Private browsing, blocked cookies, strict privacy settings and content-blocking extensions can interfere with sign-in or the casting session.
- Temporarily disconnect a VPN: A VPN, security suite or restrictive firewall can route or block the local connection.
- Restart before resetting: Restart the headset, browser, PC and router. A factory reset is rarely justified for a casting problem.
Why is Quest casting black, laggy or silent?
Black video, delay and missing audio have different causes, so test the Quest home environment before blaming the network.
Black screen
If the home environment casts correctly but one app becomes black, that app or its protected content is blocking capture. Passthrough and some privacy-sensitive system screens may also be hidden from viewers. Close and reopen the affected app, but there may be no user setting that overrides its restriction.
Delayed or choppy video
Some delay is normal because browser casting is intended for spectators, not as a low-latency monitor. Use a strong 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi connection where available, connect the PC by Ethernet, move closer to the access point and pause heavy network transfers.
If the picture is smooth on the PC but stutters inside the headset during PC VR, casting is not the cause. Diagnose that separately with our Quest Link and Air Link lag fixes.
No sound
Unmute the casting page and browser tab, then check the selected Windows output device and the app’s own volume. Quest casting may not include headset-microphone commentary reliably; use a PC microphone if narration must be recorded.
Can I cast a Quest to a PC over USB?
A USB cable does not provide ordinary Quest casting. Connecting one normally starts Quest Link for PC VR or file access after permission is granted. For a simple spectator view of a standalone Quest app, keep using browser casting over the local network.
