Connect a Bluetooth keyboard to Meta Quest, choose the right device for standalone or PC VR, and fix pairing, PIN and input problems.
Put the Bluetooth keyboard into pairing mode, then on your Meta Quest open Quick Settings, go to Settings and find Bluetooth under Devices. Choose Pair new device, select the keyboard, and enter any displayed code on the keyboard. For PC VR, pair it with the PC instead, not the headset.
How do I pair a Bluetooth keyboard with Meta Quest?
A standard Bluetooth HID keyboard can pair directly with Meta Quest for typing in supported standalone apps, browsers and text fields.
- Check the keyboard’s wireless mode. Select Bluetooth rather than a proprietary 2.4 GHz receiver mode. A keyboard that requires its own USB receiver will not appear in the Quest Bluetooth scan.
- Make the keyboard discoverable. Hold its pairing button or key combination until the Bluetooth indicator flashes. On a multi-device keyboard, choose an unused Bluetooth channel.
- Open the Quest Bluetooth settings. Using a controller or hand tracking, open Quick Settings, select Settings and look for Bluetooth, usually under Devices. Menu wording can move between Quest software releases.
- Select the keyboard. Choose its advertised name from the available devices. If Quest displays a PIN, type that PIN on the physical keyboard and press Enter; the digits may not appear while you type them.
- Test the connection. Open a known editable field, such as the Meta Quest Browser address bar, select it and type a few characters.
Once connected, the keyboard works wherever the standalone app accepts physical-keyboard input. App support controls which function keys, shortcuts and key combinations work. Keep a Quest controller or hand tracking available because pairing a keyboard does not make every part of the headset interface keyboard-operated.
Should the keyboard connect to Meta Quest or the PC?
Pair the keyboard with the device running the software: the Quest for standalone apps, or the computer for PC VR and flight simulators.

A mistake we see often in flight simulation is pairing the keyboard with Quest while expecting Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane or another PC application to receive its keystrokes. Quest does not reliably forward a headset-paired keyboard to Windows. Pair it directly with the PC, then use our Quest Link and Air Link connection steps to connect the headset.
A multi-device keyboard can often store the Quest on one Bluetooth channel and the PC on another, although it normally sends input to only the selected channel. Why is my Meta Quest Bluetooth keyboard not working?
If a Meta Quest keyboard will not connect or type, first verify that it is using Bluetooth, paired to the correct host and focused in a supported text field.
- The keyboard is not found: confirm that its pairing light is flashing. Disable Bluetooth temporarily on a phone, tablet or computer to which it keeps reconnecting, then scan again from Quest.
- It appears paired but does not type: select an editable field first and test in the Quest browser. If it works there, the original app probably lacks physical-keyboard support.
- The pairing PIN fails: type the displayed digits on the physical keyboard, not the Quest virtual keyboard, and press Enter. Start pairing again if the code has expired.
- The wrong symbols appear: check the Quest language and physical-keyboard layout settings where available. UK and US layouts place several punctuation characters on different keys.
- It disconnects repeatedly: charge or replace the keyboard batteries, move it closer, forget the saved device on Quest and pair it again. On a multi-device model, confirm that the correct channel remains selected.

Can Meta Quest show the physical keyboard in VR?
Bluetooth pairing supplies keystrokes but does not automatically make a physical keyboard visible inside an immersive Quest view.
Where physical-keyboard tracking is available, it is a separate feature and may support only particular keyboard models or layouts. An ordinary Bluetooth keyboard can still type even when Quest cannot represent it visually. Use passthrough when positioning your hands, and keep the desk clear of flight controls, cables and drinks before typing with the outside world hidden.
