Which A320neo should you choose?
Choose the FlyByWire A32NX if you fly on PC and want the strongest focus on airline procedures, custom systems and aircraft-specific configuration. Its flyPad, MCDU workflow and selectable development branches also make it attractive to regular Airbus users who accept occasional setup work.
Choose the iniBuilds A320neo if you want an aircraft maintained through Microsoft Flight Simulator's content system, or if you fly on Xbox. It is also the relevant choice on PlayStation 5 in MSFS 2024 because the FlyByWire A32NX cannot be installed on consoles.
For occasional IFR flying, the iniBuilds aircraft is not merely a beginner option. It can handle realistic gate-to-gate procedures, but it asks less of the user before the first flight. On PC, that lower-friction setup may matter more than the additional depth offered by FlyByWire.
How do the systems and cockpit workflows differ?
The A32NX provides the more self-contained airline workflow, but knowledge learned in either cockpit transfers well to the other. Both use the familiar Airbus pattern of MCDU preparation, managed and selected FCU modes, flight-mode annunciations and autothrust.
Do not expect an imported route to complete the aircraft setup automatically. In either A320neo, check the route, remove genuine discontinuities, confirm the departure and arrival, enter performance data and verify the flight-mode annunciator after take-off. The controls may look identical, but individual EFB pages, MCDU prompts, loading tools and state-saving features are not interchangeable. A checklist written specifically for one model can therefore send you to a page or option that does not exist in the other.
Does either aircraft have better FPS or handling?
Neither aircraft has a guaranteed performance advantage across every PC. Glass-cockpit rendering, traffic, airport scenery, weather, simulator updates and the selected aircraft build can all change the result.
Compare them at the same gate, in the same weather and at the same traffic settings, restarting Microsoft Flight Simulator between tests. Check cockpit frame time after both aircraft have finished loading, then repeat the comparison during an approach when avionics and scenery demands are higher.
Handling differences are also easy to misdiagnose. Use the same weight, centre of gravity, flap configuration and approach speed, and disable piloting assists that alter control inputs. A poor flare or unexpected pitch response can come from an unsuitable controller curve or incorrect loading rather than the aircraft's flight model.
What problems occur when switching between them?
Most faults after changing A320neo models come from mixing aircraft-specific files, profiles or procedures.
- Wrong aircraft selected: MSFS 2020 may display more than one A320neo entry. Check the developer and aircraft description rather than relying on a similar thumbnail.
- Incompatible liveries: FlyByWire, iniBuilds and older stock-A320 liveries are not automatically interchangeable. A mismatched livery can produce missing textures, cockpit faults or loading failures.
- Throttle detents: A controller profile that reaches CL and FLX/MCT correctly in one aircraft may not do so in the other. Calibrate each model using its own supported method and keep separate controller profiles where necessary.
- Autopilot not following the route: Look for an unresolved discontinuity, selected heading mode, incomplete alignment or missing performance data before blaming the autopilot.
- Mixed or obsolete packages: Remove old compatibility modifications and duplicate A320 packages when troubleshooting. The standalone A32NX does not need to replace the stock or iniBuilds aircraft.
Does the choice change between MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024?
The recommendation stays the same, but the FlyByWire package must match the simulator in which it is installed. For the older simulator, follow the MSFS 2020 A32NX installation process. MSFS 2024 users should instead use the simulator-specific A32NX setup for MSFS 2024.
A mistake we see repeatedly is copying an existing MSFS 2020 Community package into MSFS 2024 and assuming compatibility. Use the installer to target the correct simulator. The iniBuilds aircraft should be installed and repaired through MSFS itself rather than treated as a FlyByWire-style Community add-on.
