No—not as a true, live second instrument panel. Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox cannot pop out cockpit gauges to an iPad or run the PC connector software most instrument apps require. You can still use the iPad independently for charts, flight planning, checklists and browser-based EFB functions.
Why can’t an iPad show live MSFS Xbox gauges?
Xbox lacks the desktop windowing and companion-app connection needed to send an individual gauge to iPadOS. This applies to both Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Xbox Series X|S.
Most tablet instrument apps depend on a helper program running beside the simulator, often using SimConnect or an aircraft-specific connector. Xbox cannot install those Windows programs. Its PFD, MFD, GPS, CDU and EFB displays remain rendered inside the game rather than becoming separate windows.

Remote Play is sometimes mistaken for a second-screen feature. It mirrors the complete Xbox output and may add latency; it cannot leave the main view on the television while showing only a G1000, airliner CDU or engine panel on the tablet.
How can I tell if an instrument app supports Xbox?
Treat an app described only as “MSFS compatible” as PC-only unless its documentation explicitly names Xbox Series X|S. The common buying mistake is assuming that general MSFS support includes the console edition.
- Look for a bridge requirement: if setup involves installing a server, plug-in or connector beside MSFS, it will not work on Xbox.
- Check for SimConnect instructions: an app asking for the simulator computer’s address or a local SimConnect service normally requires Windows.
- Separate synchronisation from telemetry: importing a route through an account does not mean the app can receive live position, switch or gauge data.
- Do not rely on Marketplace availability: an add-on running inside the Xbox simulator does not automatically gain permission to communicate with an external iPad app.
What is the practical alternative for live iPad instruments?
The Windows PC version is the practical choice when the iPad must display live instruments or provide touch control. Compatible PC software can read simulator data through a connector, while pop-out cockpit windows can be placed on a suitable secondary-display or streaming arrangement.
If moving platforms is an option, first check how Xbox-to-PC ownership and entitlements work; this depends on how and where the simulator was obtained. Staying on Xbox means using controls or instrument hardware explicitly certified for that console, with compatibility checked for the exact aircraft and function.
Choose the iPad companion approach when you mainly need charts, plans and checklists. Choose PC when you need a live PFD, MFD, CDU or engine panel on the tablet; choose certified Xbox hardware when remaining on console matters more than having a fully configurable display.
