Why is my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro not working in MSFS 2020?
Fix a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro not detected or working in MSFS 2020: test Windows, restore axis bindings, stop drift and check Xbox support.
On PC, a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro usually fails in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 because Windows has not detected the joystick, MSFS has selected a blank or wrong profile, the analogue axes are unassigned, or another controller has duplicate bindings. Test it in joy.cpl first; on Xbox Series X|S, this PC joystick is unsupported.
The Extreme 3D Pro is a USB DirectInput flight-simulator joystick that provides pitch, roll, twist rudder, throttle and buttons on PC. “Logitech 3D Pro” and “Logitech 3D Extreme Pro” usually refer to this same product, whose official name is Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.
Is Windows detecting the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro?
If the stick responds in joy.cpl, Windows and its joystick driver are working; the fault is inside MSFS 2020 or an input-remapping layer.
- Close Microsoft Flight Simulator so it cannot retain an outdated list of connected controllers.
- Connect the joystick directly to a built-in USB port, avoiding an unpowered hub while testing.
- Open Game Controllers by pressing Windows key + R, entering
joy.cpland pressing Enter. - Select the Extreme 3D Pro and open Properties. Move the stick left, right, forwards and backwards; twist the grip, move the throttle slider and press several buttons.
- Watch the raw input. Check that every axis moves smoothly, reaches both ends and returns close to centre when released.

If the joystick remains absent, try another built-in USB port and restart the computer with the stick connected. In Device Manager, remove or reinstall only an entry you can positively identify as the joystick; deleting every Human Interface Device can disable unrelated controls.
A stick that fails on more than one PC is probably suffering from a cable, connector or internal hardware fault. Remapping MSFS controls cannot repair a device that Windows cannot read.
How do I fix a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro not detected by MSFS 2020?
When joy.cpl works but MSFS does not list the stick, restart the simulator with the joystick already connected and temporarily close any software that creates virtual controllers.
Use the same USB port between sessions where practical. Moving the joystick to another port can make Windows or the simulator enumerate it differently, leaving the saved assignments attached to the previous device identity. On the Steam edition, disable Steam Input for MSFS if the stick is being presented as a virtual or generic gamepad instead of a joystick.
Once the Extreme 3D Pro appears in Controls Options, rebuild its controls in this order:
- Select the correct device from the controller row. Do not edit the keyboard, mouse, Xbox controller or an “All” device view by mistake.

- Change the filter to All. The Assigned filter hides commands that have not yet been mapped, which makes an empty profile look as though the axes do not exist.
- Use input search to identify each physical movement, then assign it to the corresponding analogue axis command.
- Clear duplicate flight axes from gamepads, rudder pedals, throttle quadrants and virtual controllers. A second device can override the joystick continuously.
- Apply and save the preset, then test in an unpaused flight using a default aircraft such as the Cessna 152.
Correct Extreme 3D Pro axis bindings
The four main movements must use axis commands, not the similarly named digital button commands.

Choose the 0–100% throttle variant when the slider should run from idle to full power and reverse thrust will be assigned separately. How do I fix Extreme 3D Pro dead zone and rudder drift?
The correct dead-zone fix is to measure the unwanted movement in Windows first, then add only enough dead zone in MSFS to suppress that movement.
- Return to
joy.cpland release the stick. Watch the pitch, roll and twist axes without touching them. - Calibrate in Windows if offered when the centre is offset or the axes do not reach their full range. Move every axis through its complete travel during the calibration process.
- Open Sensitivity in MSFS for the Extreme 3D Pro and select the affected axis.
- Increase Dead Zone gradually, beginning with a few per cent and raising it in small steps until the cockpit control stops moving by itself.
- Retest full travel. An excessive dead zone makes the aircraft sluggish around the centre and reduces usable precision.
The twist rudder is often the first input on an ageing joystick to become noisy. A small centre flicker can be hidden with dead zone, but repeated spikes, full rudder deflection or severely reduced travel indicate physical wear rather than an MSFS sensitivity problem. The Neutral setting shifts the effective centre; it should not be used to conceal random electrical noise.
Why do the input bars move but the aircraft does not respond?
If MSFS displays the joystick movement in Controls Options, detection is complete and the remaining fault is normally a conflicting assignment, the wrong command or an aircraft system controlling the flight surfaces.
- Disconnect other controllers temporarily. If the stick begins working, reconnect each device and remove duplicate pitch, roll, rudder or throttle bindings.
- Turn off autopilot and AI piloting. A cockpit control that moves and then snaps back often points to automation or a second controller sending an opposing value.
- Check for digital bindings. An axis assigned to Elevator Up, Aileron Left or another button-style command will not provide proportional control.
- Confirm the active preset. MSFS may load a different custom profile from the one edited earlier.
- Test a default aircraft. If the joystick works in the Cessna 152 but not in a complex add-on, investigate that aircraft rather than resetting the global controller configuration.
- Test from an unpaused flight. Assistance settings, pause states and aircraft automation can make correct inputs appear ineffective.

Does the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro need a joystick driver or G Hub?
The Extreme 3D Pro normally uses Windows’ built-in USB Human Interface Device and DirectInput support, so no separate Logitech profile is required for MSFS 2020.
If every axis and button responds in joy.cpl, the required driver is already loaded. Reinstalling software will not repair a blank MSFS preset, duplicate binding or incorrect axis assignment. Avoid unofficial driver packages; they are unnecessary for a joystick that already passes the Windows test.
If Device Manager shows a warning and joy.cpl cannot see the stick, disconnect it, restart Windows and reconnect it directly so Windows can enumerate the device again. Test another USB port before treating this as a driver failure.
G Hub not launching: is that why the 3D Pro is missing?
G Hub not launching is normally a separate problem because the Extreme 3D Pro does not need G Hub to appear as a standard Windows joystick.
If the 3D Pro is the only device being diagnosed, close G Hub and continue with joy.cpl. If G Hub is required for other Logitech equipment, restart Windows, close any stalled G Hub components in Task Manager and relaunch it; repair or reinstall the application only if its own devices also fail. Fixing G Hub will not create missing MSFS axis assignments or add Xbox compatibility.
Does the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro work on Xbox Series X|S?
The Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is not natively supported as an Xbox Series X|S flight controller and will not work in the Xbox edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 through a direct USB connection.
It is a PC DirectInput device, while Xbox requires supported Xbox-compatible controllers and flight peripherals. A Windows driver, MSFS profile or G Hub installation cannot change that platform limitation. To use this particular joystick with Microsoft Flight Simulator, run the PC edition; on Xbox, use a flight controller explicitly designed and licensed for the console.
