Yes. A Meta Quest headset, including Quest 2, can run PC flight simulators in VR by streaming the simulator from a VR-capable Windows PC through a USB Quest Link cable or Wi-Fi via Air Link. The headset does not turn standalone Quest, Xbox or PlayStation software into a flight simulator.
Meta Quest is the headset family; Quest 2 is one model within it. The original Oculus Quest also gained PC VR streaming, but it is legacy hardware outside Meta’s active platform support. An existing unit may still work, although Quest 2 is the more practical minimum for modern flight simulation.
Can Quest 2 run a flight simulator without a PC?
No. Full desktop simulators such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, DCS World and X-Plane run on the PC, which renders each frame and streams the image to Quest 2. The headset sends head tracking and controller input back to the computer.
Quest-native aviation titles are separate applications and cannot run Windows simulator aircraft, scenery or add-ons. Quest also cannot act as a VR display for Xbox or PlayStation. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s 2026 PS5 VR update is for PSVR2, not Meta Quest.

Should you use Quest Link or Air Link?
A USB Quest Link connection is usually the better choice for a seated flight simulator because it removes Wi-Fi variability and may slow battery drain.

Air Link performance depends on the local network, not broadband speed. Mesh hops, wireless PC connections and busy household Wi-Fi commonly cause cockpit judder even when an internet speed test looks excellent.
How do you set up Quest 2 for a PC flight simulator?
Setup consists of connecting Quest 2 to the Meta PC software, selecting the correct VR runtime and entering the simulator’s VR mode.
- Confirm the PC can handle VR. Flight simulators are significantly more demanding in a headset than on one monitor. Check our VR flight-simulator GPU and VRAM guidance before treating the headset as a performance upgrade.
- Install the Meta Quest Link PC software. Update the headset and PC graphics driver, then complete the headset pairing process.
- Establish the connection. Enable Quest Link using either a compatible USB data cable or Air Link and enter the PC VR environment inside the headset.
- Select the appropriate runtime. For simulators using OpenXR directly, make Meta Quest Link the active OpenXR runtime. Use SteamVR only when the simulator or a required add-on specifically calls for it; launching multiple VR layers unnecessarily can cause failed starts and extra overhead.
- Launch the simulator and enter VR. Start in a normal monitor view if required, load the cockpit, then activate the simulator’s VR command. - Re-centre and map the controls. Sit in your normal flying position before resetting the VR view. Why is Quest 2 blurry or stuttering in a flight simulator?
Blur and stutter usually come from rendering load, compressed streaming, poor Wi-Fi or incorrect headset positioning rather than a faulty simulator.
- Blurry instruments: Position the headset within Quest 2’s narrow optical sweet spot, set the closest suitable lens-spacing position and tighten the strap without tilting the display. Then adjust rendering resolution gradually rather than applying aggressive sharpening.
- Low frame rate: Reduce headset resolution or simulator render scaling first, followed by clouds, shadows, reflections and terrain or object detail. Raising both the Meta rendering resolution and the simulator’s render scale multiplies the GPU workload.
- Regular Air Link pauses: Connect the PC to the router by Ethernet, use a clean Wi-Fi band near the flying position and avoid mesh extenders between the headset and access point.
- Black screen or endless loading: Check that Quest Link is active before enabling VR, confirm the correct OpenXR runtime and restart the simulator after changing runtimes.
- USB disconnects: Confirm that the cable carries data rather than power only, try a direct PC port and remove unpowered hubs or extension chains.
- Battery drains while connected: A Link cable does not guarantee enough charging power for an unlimited session. The available power depends on the cable and USB port, so begin long flights with the headset charged.
Quest 2 remains a workable entry point for PC flight simulation, particularly if you already own one. Its main compromises are compressed image transmission, a relatively small optical sweet spot and the high PC performance needed to keep detailed glass cockpits readable.
