Where can I find official aeronautical charts for Hungary?

Official Hungarian aeronautical charts are published by HungaroControl’s Aeronautical Information Service (AIS). Use the Hungary eAIP for IFR en-route, airspace and aerodrome charts, and its VFR publications for visual navigation material. Check the effective AIRAC date, AIP amendments, supplements and NOTAMs before a real or simulated flight.

How do you get charts from Hungary’s official AIS?

Locate HungaroControl AIS, select the Hungary eAIP edition effective for the intended flight date, and then open the relevant ENR or AD section.

  1. Find the official publisher: search for HungaroControl AIS eAIP Hungary and confirm that the publisher is HungaroControl’s Aeronautical Information Service. A search-result PDF, mirror or chart aggregator is not the official source, even if the document looks genuine.
  2. Select the correct edition: use the AIP package whose effective date covers the flight. If an in-force edition and a next-effective edition appear together, do not use the future package before its printed effective date.
  3. Open the required section: use ENR for airspace and en-route information. For an airport, open AD 2, select its ICAO code—Hungarian location indicators begin with LH—and find the chart list under AD 2.24.
  4. Check changes: review AIP amendments and supplements, then examine relevant NOTAMs. Temporary closures, unavailable navigation aids and changed operating hours may not be drawn on the base chart.
  5. Keep identification visible: when saving or printing a chart, retain its title, aerodrome code and effective or revision date. Cropping these details makes later validity checks unreliable.

Which Hungarian chart publication do you need?

Use the eAIP’s ENR section for the route and airspace, AD for airport procedures, and the official VFR material for visual navigation.

An aerodrome chart does not always contain enough detail for parking and taxi planning. Larger airports may have separate ground-movement, parking or docking charts, so inspect the complete AD 2.24 list rather than opening only the first diagram. How do you know whether a Hungarian chart is valid?

A chart is valid only when its status agrees with the official eAIP package and any subsequent amendments, supplements and NOTAMs applicable on the flight date.

  • Match the ICAO code and chart title; similarly named procedures can serve different runways or transitions.
  • Read the effective or revision date printed on the chart rather than relying on the file’s download date.
  • Check whether the eAIP index marks the chart as replaced or cancelled.
  • Review AIP Supplements and NOTAMs for temporary restrictions or procedural changes not incorporated graphically.
  • When printing a scaled VFR chart, use 100 per cent output and verify its scale bar. A browser’s fit-to-page setting can alter the published scale.

The 28-day AIRAC system does not mean every chart receives a new date each cycle. An older chart may remain valid until it is replaced or cancelled; conversely, a newer-looking file may have a future effective date and must not be used early.

Why might an official chart not match the simulator?

An official chart represents real-world data for its stated effective date, while the simulator’s navigation database or airport scenery may represent a different period.

If a SID, taxiway, stand or runway designation differs in MSFS, X-Plane, Prepar3D or FSX, compare the chart date with the simulator’s navdata cycle and the scenery’s modelled airport layout. For an historical recreation, choose charts matching the simulated period. For ordinary present-day simulation, use the in-force chart and align the navdata and scenery where practical.

For real-world flying, never resolve a mismatch by trusting the simulator. Use the operational briefing and chart arrangements required by the pilot’s authority, organisation or operator.
