Open the active AIP, use its ENR and AD sections, and check amendments, supplements and NOTAMs before relying on a chart.
AAI's Aeronautical Information Service or Aeronautical Information Management portal is the source to search, rather than the civil-aviation regulator's general publications. Portal addresses and access screens can change, so begin with AAI's official service and look for eAIP India, AIP India, AIS or AIM. How do you find charts in eAIP India?
Open AAI's official AIS/AIM service and select the eAIP edition whose effective date is in force.
- Confirm the publisher: the publication should identify AAI's Aeronautical Information Service and AIP India. Avoid starting from a cached PDF found through a general web search.
- Select the active eAIP: check the publication date, effective date and incorporated amendment number shown on the package or cover page.
- Search by ICAO code: open the airport's entry under AD 2, then find its chart list under AD 2.24. AIP indexes normally use ICAO location indicators rather than three-letter IATA codes; for example, search
VIDPrather thanDEL. - Open ENR 6 for en-route charts: this section contains the published en-route and related airspace charts. Supporting route, airspace and navigation information appears elsewhere in ENR.
- Check subsequent changes: review applicable AIP Amendments, AIRAC Amendments, AIP Supplements and NOTAMs. The base chart alone may not show a temporary closure or a change issued after its effective date.

How can you tell whether an Indian chart is current?
An Indian chart is current only when its identification and effective information agree with the active eAIP and no later amendment, supplement or NOTAM changes it.
- Read the chart number, edition or effective date in its title block.
- Compare it with the active eAIP's cover information and incorporated amendment number.
- Check AIP Supplements for longer temporary changes and NOTAMs for short-notice operational changes.
- Re-download the file if a browser bookmark or cache keeps opening an older PDF.
AIRAC operates on a 28-day cycle, but that does not mean every Indian chart is reissued every 28 days. A chart can remain valid across multiple cycles until it is amended, replaced or cancelled.
In a simulator, a current chart may disagree with older scenery or FMS navigation data. Missing procedures, renamed waypoints and displaced taxiways usually indicate a chart, navdata or scenery cycle mismatch—not necessarily a defective chart. For real-world flight, use the complete authorised operational information and briefing process rather than simulator data.
Can you download Indian charts for flight simulation?
Where AAI provides a PDF or eAIP package, it is the correct source for personal chart reference in a flight simulator. Save the chart identifier and effective date with any downloaded copy so that an old file cannot later be mistaken for the active edition.

Why might an Indian airport chart be missing?
A missing chart usually means the wrong code or AIP section is being searched, or that the aerodrome has no publicly published procedure of that type.
India uses ICAO location indicators beginning with prefixes including VA, VE, VI and VO. Search the AD index by that four-letter code, not just the city name or IATA code. Some aerodromes have only basic information, some lack instrument approaches, and restricted facilities may not have a complete public chart set.
A mistake we see constantly is substituting an undated image or an old chart mirrored elsewhere when the expected plate is absent. Return to the active eAIP, inspect the complete AD entry and its amendments, and treat any unofficial copy as unsuitable for real-world operational use.
