Fix X-Plane Mobile stuck on the loading screen by checking storage, connection, updates and corrupt data, with safe iOS and Android steps.
X-Plane Mobile usually sticks on the loading screen because its app or aircraft/scenery data is incomplete, the device lacks free storage or memory, or a network or account check cannot finish. Force-close the app, restart the device, test a stable connection, check storage, then update or reinstall only if those simpler checks fail.
What does a stuck X-Plane Mobile loading screen mean?
The point at which X-Plane Mobile stops usually identifies whether the fault is the app, network or selected flight content. A frozen logo is different from reaching the flight setup screen and then hanging while scenery loads.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Best first check |
|---|---|---|
| Logo or opening screen never advances | Incomplete update, low storage, incompatible OS or blocked network check | Restart, check free space and test another connection |
| Loading always stops at the same point | Damaged or incomplete local content | Try an included aircraft and already-installed region |
| The menu opens, but a flight will not | Selected aircraft, scenery or online data problem | Load a simple flight without optional online features |
| It works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi | Captive portal, VPN, private DNS or router filtering | Complete the Wi-Fi sign-in or disable filtering temporarily |
| The app closes or returns to the home screen | A crash rather than a loading freeze | Use our separate X-Plane Mobile crash-fixing steps |
How do I fix X-Plane Mobile not loading?
Work through these checks in order, because deleting the app first may erase downloaded scenery and settings without addressing a network or storage fault.
- Allow one uninterrupted first launch. After an app or content update, X-Plane Mobile may need several minutes to prepare local data. If the loading indicator is still moving, keep the app open and avoid repeatedly force-closing it.
- Force-close X-Plane Mobile and restart the device. Remove the app from the recent-apps screen, reboot the phone or tablet, and close memory-heavy background apps before trying again. A reboot clears temporary memory that merely reopening the app does not.
- Test the connection. Open a browser to expose any hotel, school or public Wi-Fi sign-in page. Temporarily disable a VPN, private DNS or network-level advert blocker, then compare Wi-Fi with mobile data if your allowance permits it. Incorrect device date and time can also prevent secure account checks, so use automatic time.
- Check free internal storage. The device needs more room than the app's listed download size because updates must be unpacked and scenery may be cached. Delete or move unused files until there is meaningful spare capacity, restart, and try again.
- Install compatible updates. Update X-Plane Mobile through the device's normal app store and install an OS release supported by that app version. Owners of Apple devices can check our iPhone and iPad compatibility and storage guidance.
- Isolate aircraft or scenery content. If you can reach flight setup, select an included aircraft, an already-installed airport or region, preset weather and no optional online session. If that loads, remove and download the suspect content again using the app's content controls.
- Clear only the Android cache. On Android, the device's app settings may offer
Clear cache. Do not chooseClear storageorClear dataunless you are prepared to sign in again and lose local downloads or settings. - Reinstall only as the last step. Confirm that you know which store and X-Plane accounts you used, delete the app, restart the device and download a fresh copy over a stable connection. Let the initial content preparation finish before switching apps.
Will reinstalling X-Plane Mobile delete my downloads?
A full deletion can remove locally stored scenery, cached content and settings, even when purchases or subscriptions can later be restored through the correct account. Take note of your account details and expect some content to require another download.
iOS does not provide a universal app-cache clearing control. Offloading can preserve app data, which is useful for reclaiming space but may also retain the damaged data causing the hang; a full deletion is the stronger repair. Desktop X-Plane advice about deleting preference files or plug-in folders does not apply directly to the sandboxed mobile app.
Does X-Plane Mobile need internet to get past loading?
X-Plane Mobile does not need a connection for every flight once the required local content is available, but downloads, streamed data, account validation and online features do require internet access. Our explanation of which X-Plane Mobile features work offline covers that distinction.
If the app loads through one network but not another, reinstalling is unlikely to help; the failed network is probably blocking or interrupting a request. If every network fails at the same stage, local storage, damaged app data, device compatibility or a temporary service problem becomes more likely.
What if it remains stuck after a clean reinstall?
A clean installation that fails on multiple reliable networks points towards device compatibility, an account-side problem or a temporary service fault. Record the device model, OS and app versions, available storage, exact screen where loading stops, and whether the problem began after an update or content download.
Provide those details through the app's official support route. Reinstalling repeatedly will not fix a service outage, unsupported hardware or an account-validation failure, and it only forces another large content download.
