In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, move the pointer over an empty part of the windscreen and roll the mouse wheel to zoom the cockpit view. To change the rate, open the Camera settings and adjust the cockpit Zoom Speed slider. Keyboard and controller users can assign the cockpit Zoom In and Zoom Out commands.
How do I zoom the cockpit view?
The mouse wheel is the quickest cockpit zoom control on PC, provided the pointer is not hovering over an interactive switch, knob or display.
- Enter the cockpit camera. External, drone and showcase cameras use separate commands.
- Move the pointer away from instruments. Place it over the windscreen or another non-interactive area.
- Roll the wheel. One direction zooms in and the other widens the field of view.
- Reset when needed. Use the Reset Cockpit View command to restore the aircraft's default camera position and zoom.
For keyboard, joystick or console controller input, open Settings, select Controls and choose the device and active profile. Search for zoom, then assign the cockpit-specific pair. Depending on the displayed control labels, these may appear as Zoom Cockpit View and Unzoom Cockpit View.

How do I slow down or speed up cockpit zoom?
The cockpit Zoom Speed setting controls how quickly the field of view changes when MSFS 2024 receives a zoom command.
- Open Settings. You can do this from the main screen or the pause menu.
- Open the Camera options. On layouts where Camera is grouped beneath General settings, expand that category first.
- Find the cockpit camera section. Reduce Zoom Speed for finer movement or increase it for faster zooming.
- Apply the change and test it in the cockpit. Make small adjustments until one wheel notch or button press gives useful movement.
Do not confuse Zoom Speed with a setting labelled simply Zoom. Zoom establishes the normal or reset field of view; Zoom Speed changes how rapidly you reach another zoom level. Freelook Speed affects camera rotation rather than magnification.
A free-spinning or high-resolution mouse wheel can send several inputs from one movement, making zoom appear faster than the slider suggests. Use shorter wheel movements or the wheel's ratcheted mode where available. With a controller button, tap rather than hold it if key repeat causes the view to race through the zoom range.
Why does the mouse wheel operate a knob instead of zooming?
The wheel is being captured by the cockpit interaction system because the pointer is over an adjustable control.
Move the pointer onto the windscreen before scrolling. Also close or move away from an EFB, toolbar panel or other interface element that may be receiving the wheel input. This is normal behaviour and prevents accidental camera movement while changing an instrument value.
If zoom still does nothing, return to Controls and confirm that you selected the correct device and active profile. Change the assignment filter to show all commands, check for duplicate zoom-axis bindings and make sure you assigned cockpit rather than external-camera zoom. Why does my cockpit zoom level keep resetting?
Reset Cockpit View and saved camera presets restore their own camera position and zoom level, so they can overwrite a temporary mouse-wheel adjustment.
Set the seat position and zoom first, then save them together as a custom cockpit camera view. Custom views are aircraft-specific, which prevents a useful instrument view in one aeroplane from producing an unsuitable viewpoint in another.
If every reset returns to a view that is too wide or too close, adjust the normal cockpit Zoom value rather than Zoom Speed. Very wide settings show more of the panel but distort objects near the screen edges; a moderate default view with separate close-up instrument views is usually easier to use.
