Concentrated instrument coverage

Helena’s ten instrument approach plates serve only two runway ends across a four-runway layout. The mix of ILS, RNAV (GPS), VOR and localiser procedures provides varied guidance to those ends, including a helicopter procedure, but not broad coverage across the available alignments. Runway 09/27 is the sole 9,000 ft option; aircraft needing more than 4,644 ft therefore have no alternative runway alignment.

Regional chart context

Bert Mooney has the broadest nearby procedure set, although its seven charts remain notably fewer than Helena’s 17. White Sulphur Springs and Bowman Field have thinner coverage, while Lincoln and Deer Lodge-City-County each have only two charts. The Great Falls Sectional adds the wider VFR context around Helena that the airport-specific terminal procedures do not show.
