McAllen’s six approach charts serve only two of its four runway ends, concentrating instrument access on a single runway alignment. The mix includes ILS, localiser, RNAV (GPS) and VOR procedures, giving those ends both precision and non-precision options. Runway 14/32, at 7,120 ft, provides substantially more usable length than the 2,639 ft runway 18/36; the shorter runway adds another alignment but not comparable length.
Valley International has a markedly broader procedure set, while Brownsville/South Padre Island International is close to McAllen in overall chart coverage. Mid Valley, South Texas International at Edinburg and Cameron County have much thinner sets. The Brownsville sectional adds wider VFR context, while the US Gulf Coast Helicopter Route Chart supplies helicopter-route detail absent from the terminal procedures.
