Limited instrument coverage

Portales Municipal has two runway alignments, but its sole instrument approach is an RNAV (GPS) procedure serving just one of the four runway ends. Instrument arrivals are therefore concentrated on a single end, while the other three have no published approach. Runway 01/19 is 1,140 ft longer than 08/26, so any operation requiring more than 4,560 ft is confined to that alignment. No airport diagram is published.

Regional chart context

Nearby procedure coverage varies sharply. Cannon AFB has the broadest set, while Clovis Regional also has appreciably more charts; Muleshoe Municipal and Littlefield Taylor Brown Municipal have similarly thin coverage to Portales. The Albuquerque Sectional supplies wider visual-navigation context not provided by the small instrument set.

What charts are available for KPRZ?

3 current FAA charts for Portales Muni, including 1 instrument approach. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for KPRZ?

CTAF 122.8; Clearance delivery 119.0. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at KPRZ?

Portales Muni has 2 runways. The longest is 01/19 at 5,700 ft by 60 ft, asphalt. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does KPRZ have an ILS approach?

No ILS is published. In total KPRZ has 1 published instrument approach, of which 1 are RNAV (GPS).

Which runway do instrument approaches serve at KPRZ?

Every published approach serves one runway end. There is no instrument procedure to the reciprocal direction, so an arrival in instrument conditions commits to that single approach direction regardless of the wind.

Is KPRZ a towered airport?

No — Portales Muni has no control tower. Traffic co-ordinates on a common frequency rather than with a controller, which is listed in the frequencies table on this page.

Are these KPRZ charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
