Approach coverage

Sher-Wood’s two RNAV (GPS) approaches serve two of the airport’s four runway ends. Instrument coverage is therefore available in two directions, while the remaining ends have no published approach; the set offers no approach type beyond GPS-based RNAV.

Runways and surrounding coverage

Runway 12/30 is the longer option at 3,900 ft and is asphalt, while turf runway 08/26 is 2,951 ft. On length alone, any aircraft requiring more than 2,951 ft cannot use 08/26, making the 949-ft difference significant. Nearby, Williston Basin International has markedly broader chart coverage, whereas Scobey, Poplar Municipal, Crosby Municipal and L M Clayton are close to Sher-Wood’s limited coverage. The Billings Sectional adds wider VFR geographic context not provided by the instrument procedures.
