Approach coverage at Griffiss

Griffiss’s single 11,820 ft runway has published approach coverage at both ends, rather than concentrating instrument access on one alignment. The three approach charts collectively provide ILS, localiser and RNAV (GPS) options, combining ground-based and satellite-based procedures within a compact chart set. With no second runway, all published approaches ultimately serve runway 15/33, while its length provides considerable distance for aircraft with longer runway requirements.

Regional chart context

Syracuse Hancock International has a markedly broader procedure set than Griffiss. Oswego County is closest in breadth, with seven charts against six, while Hamilton Municipal, Lt Warren Eaton and Piseco have much thinner coverage. The New York Sectional adds wider VFR context around Rome beyond the immediate airport procedures.
