Approach and runway coverage

San Luis Obispo’s four approach charts serve two runway ends, combining ILS/localiser, RNAV (GPS) and VOR procedures. This provides both satellite-based and conventional guidance, but approach coverage is not spread across all four ends. The 6,101 ft runway offers more than twice the length of the 2,500 ft cross-runway, making runway selection a substantial change in available take-off and landing distance.

Regional chart context

Santa Maria, Paso Robles and Vandenberg have similarly broad chart sets, with 10 to 12 procedures each. Lompoc and Santa Ynez/Kunkle Field are covered much more thinly, with only four and five charts respectively. The Los Angeles Sectional adds the wider visual planning context absent from SBP’s terminal procedures.
