Santa Maria’s published approaches are concentrated on two of its four runway ends. The mix includes an ILS, localiser procedures, RNAV (GPS) and VOR coverage, providing both satellite-based and ground-based options while leaving the other two ends without a published approach. The two runway alignments also differ markedly in length: the 8,004 ft runway provides 2,805 ft more pavement than the 5,199 ft runway, making runway choice significant for available take-off and landing distance.
Vandenberg and San Luis Obispo have chart sets of similar breadth, while Santa Barbara’s is larger. Lompoc and Santa Ynez have much thinner procedure coverage. The Los Angeles Sectional adds the wider visual-navigation context around Santa Maria that the airport diagram and terminal procedures do not show.
