Approach and runway coverage

Sixteen instrument approach procedures serve all four ends of Mc Ghee Tyson’s two parallel runways. The mix of ILS, RNAV (GPS), VOR and localiser procedures provides more than one form of guidance, while one ILS includes CAT II/III minima. With only one published departure procedure, the chart set is weighted strongly towards arrivals. The parallel layout provides two 9,000-ft-plus runway options on the same alignment, rather than a second crossing direction.

Local chart context

Nearby procedure coverage is much thinner. Knoxville Downtown Island and Rockwood Municipal have the broadest nearby sets at five charts each, while Colonel Tommy C Stiner Airfield has only two. The Atlanta, Cincinnati and St Louis sectional charts add broad-area VFR context beyond the airport diagram and terminal procedures.
