Approach coverage

Volk Field’s five approach charts serve both ends of its sole 9,000 ft runway, rather than concentrating instrument access on one direction. The mix includes ILS, localiser and RNAV (GPS) procedures, providing both ground-based and satellite-based approach coverage. With only one runway alignment, every published approach ultimately feeds the same concrete strip.

Surrounding chart coverage

Sparta/Fort Mc Coy has six published charts, making its procedure coverage the closest nearby comparison with Volk Field’s seven. The other listed airports have only two or three charts each, so their published sets are markedly thinner. Coverage by both the Chicago and Green Bay sectional charts adds the wider VFR context that the airport diagram and instrument procedures do not provide.
