Northwest Airlines’ “new colors” come to life on the Douglas DC-9-51, depicting registration N750NC with crisp, era-appropriate markings for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. The repaint targets the SGA DC-9 series and requires the SGA950.ZIP base model, delivering an authentic classic-jet look for short- to medium-range operations.
This freeware repaint depicts Northwest Airlines’ distinctive new-color scheme on a Douglas DC-9-51 (registration N750NC) created for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 by the talented Frank Idone. It integrates seamlessly with the SGA base package, although the core model itself is not included. You will need to acquire the freeware base release (SGA950.ZIP) from the Fly Away Simulation mod library in order to enjoy these textures fully.
The real-world Douglas DC-9-51 is the largest variant of the DC-9 series, featuring an extended fuselage that accommodates additional rows of passenger seating compared to the earlier iterations. Northwest Airlines introduced this jet to serve airports with mid-range routes, capitalizing on the DC-9’s strong reputation for reliable performance and suitability for shorter runways. The airline, historically recognized for its hubs in Minneapolis–St. Paul and Detroit, was an early adopter of several McDonnell Douglas aircraft, including multiple DC-9 versions.

description=DC-9 no.813 flown by Northwest Airlines.\nLivery by Frank Idone.\n\nThe DC-9 was designed specifically to operate from short runways and on short- to medium-range routes so that the speed, comfort and reliability of jet transportation could be extended to hundreds of communities previously served only by propeller-driven airliners. The fifth and largest DC-9 version, the Series 50, is extended to 133.6 feet (40.7 m) in length, permitting installation of five more rows of seats than the Series 30. Maximum passenger capacity is up to 139, with cargo capacity increased similarly. Wingspan is the same as for the Series 30. Engines are either JT8D-15s or JT8D-17s, which are rated at 16,000 pounds. Airline operations with the Series 50 began in August 1975.
The DC-9-51’s design prioritizes short-field capability, making it suitable for airports with constrained runway lengths. At the same time, it supports medium-range flights typical of many domestic routes. Combining that adaptable airframe with Northwest’s bold livery provides a well-rounded experience for those who enjoy operating one of the twentieth century’s most enduring single-aisle jets.
