Nationwide Air was a New Zealand company which hauled cars between the North and the South Islands.

Unfortunately however, the NZ Government put quite a lot of obstacles in their path, and they were never able to carry passengers, so business was confined to carrying locally assembled new cars and some cargo. Custom was somewhat one-way, and therefore not too financially rewarding. The loss of an engine on ZK-NWB finally caused the company to cease trading when a replacement could not be sourced at a reasonable price.

I have attempted this repaint after Simon Gunson, a Carvair enthusiast and former employee of Nationwide Air contacted me with a photograph, but unfortunately I cant make out all the details, so the aircraft is not an exact copy. What I have done is a 'generic' Carvair in Nationwide colours, and I think it looks quite successful. The original has a logo on the side of the fuselage which might say 'a division of Car Haulways limited' but I can't be sure, so I have left it off.

  • You must have the Carvair file (jwat98.zip, or jwat98k2.zip for FS2002) installed on your system.
  • Unzip this package and put the folder called 'texture.nw' into the Carvair sub-folder of the Aircraft folder of FS2004. Then open the aircraft
  • CFG file and cut and paste the following into it, immediately below the last similar entry, changing the 'x' to the next consecutive number.
  • Copy and paste the following text:

sim=AT98

description=The ATL98 was used by Nationwide Air to ferry locally assembled new cars across New Zealands Cook Strait, and for general freight duties. The company did not carry passengers in the rear of their aircraft. ZK-NWB's career ended when it threw a con-rod and the agreement to purchase a new engine fell through because the owner of the replacement had a heart attack.
