This freeware patch introduces a refined upgrade to the default Boeing 737-800 cabin night lighting by enhancing texture resolution and color depth, ensuring a more authentic simulation experience. It modifies the existing textures to achieve clearer illumination in low-light conditions. This release was developed by Juan Villamor, who focused on optimizing every pixel for improved realism while preserving performance.

Cabin Light Enhancement Details

The Boeing 737-800, part of the Next Generation series, is a widely recognized narrow-body jetliner. In this update, higher-resolution textures have been created to replace the original cabin lighting textures. Originally set at 512 pixels, these have been elevated to 1024 pixels, making nighttime flights more visually appealing. Along with the resolution change, the textures are compressed using DXT3 encoding, ensuring a balanced combination of visual fidelity and efficient processing.

Technical Specifications

Resolution Upgrade
Raised from 512 to 1024 pixels for sharper definition throughout the fuselage cabin area.
Color Depth
Rendered at 24 bits, enhancing color transitions and minimizing banding in darker conditions.
Texture Format
Compressed using DXT3, which provides detailed imagery with minimal performance overhead in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Performance Considerations

This patch is designed to preserve frame rates while adding visual refinements. The DXT3 compression format helps maintain manageable texture file sizes so that users can enjoy enhanced illumination without a noticeable drop in simulator performance.

Installation Notes

Since this add-on adjusts the existing default cabin lighting files, it is recommended to back up your original textures before installing this patch. Overwriting default textures enhances the interior environment, improving night visibility around passenger windows and doors. Created by Juan Villamor, this package brings added depth to the well-known Boeing 737-800 cockpit-to-cabin experience for those who enjoy night operations.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
