NOAA Hurricane Hunters Lockheed WP-3D brings the iconic storm-survey Orion to Microsoft Flight Simulator X with a native model tailored for authentic mission flying, including two nose paint options. It requires the P-3C Orion base package and includes a detailed virtual cockpit and exterior optimized for FSX-era performance.

Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

P-3C Orion FSX is required in order to use this model. Two kinds of paint were prepared, gray nose and black nose. This is a native FSX model, however, it is not compatible with DX10. By Team FS KBT / Hiroaki Kubota.

Installation:

  • SimObjects folder is arranged to an FSX main folder.
  • Although it is asked whether to overwrite PC, please choose and continue "YES".
  • It is as follows when it has arranged correctly:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\WP-3D_FSX

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Place files per the readme

    Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.

  3. Always read the included readme

    Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

I find myself in the cockpit of this bird moreover than any. I'm a Heavy Junkie for one, especially if it has props. In the little time I've had this in my inventory, I have taken it globally from U.S. Military Airfields stateside. Up the Saint Lawrence River to Greenland from Ft. Drum, New York to Siberia, Russia from Fairchild AFB, Washington.Thanks for sharing such a great aircraft as freeware.
