FSX F-16 Update And Modification

Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon pilots get a refreshed cockpit experience in FSX with a newly configured virtual cockpit and 2D panel for two models, restoring broad gauge functionality where editing was limited. The package adds an expanded repaint set, authentic full-loadout visuals with matching pylons, and a new smoke effect.

This is a panel update for two different models of the Lockheed Martin F16 Fighting Falcon. The package includes the original paint by Kirk Olsson and seven beautiful repaints by different authors. The focus of this update lies on a newly configured VC and 2D panel, as one of the two models had a VC which wasn't editable in some of its sections. Now, just about all the gauges of the VC, some of them original, some new, are functioning.

All the models display full loadouts, due to the fact that only the Viperden model file, which is only assigned to the editable VC and a full loadout, enables it to be edited entirely. So some of the repaints like the Thunderbird that originally were clean models have now full loadouts as well, but to give them a fairly authentic appearance the pylons have been repainted to match the fuselages. Original model by Kirk Olsson and FSX Update by Danny Garnier, repaints by Mees Jansen, Kirk Olsson, Claus Vendelboe Holmberg and Juan 30005 (original name unknown). New model compilation, new VC and 2D panel configuration, new repaint modifications as well as new smoke effect by Michael Pook.

Installation:

  • In the case you already have different F-16 models and folders, make back-ups of them, remove them from your main airplanes directory and copy this new folder into it. This is important, because otherwise you may have double aircraft titles in your airplanes folder.
  • Copy the gauges in the gauges folder into you main gauges directory and the smoke effect into the main effects directory (no need to overwrite).

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Place files per the readme

    Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.

  3. Always read the included readme

    Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

    Beautiful exterior and sound but let's run down the list of issues.

    Redbull and thunderbird skins don't work, the cockpit is white and after copying all gauges and putting them in the gauge folder, only a few show up.

    Handing is good at low speed. Very realistic but then high speed turns and pulling up is insanely tight as if flying in a drone.

    Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the real agility of an F16 but it acts like an F22 Raptor on steroids. The cockpit on this update is finally not a green canopy. So that's a plus.

    Perhaps I messed up somewhere in texture but as before this update, the cockpit looks like white plastic with only a few gauges showing up.
