FSX McDonnell FH-1 Phantom

McDonnell FH-1 Phantom brings early US Navy carrier-jet history to life in FSX with folding wings, an operating tailhook, and a landing light tied to tailhook position via an XML gauge. The native Acceleration-compiled model features reflective glass, specular shine, bump-mapped DDS textures, and a photo-based 2D panel and virtual cockpit with working gauges, VF-17A USS Saipan 1948 livery.

Flight Simulator X Prepar3D
The FH-1 Phantom was one of the first US Navy carrier based jets. Only about 60 were produced as it suffered from lack of power from the early axial flow jet engines. This is a FSX native project compiled with the Acceleration version of Xtomdl. It has the usual animations plus folding wings and operating tailhook. The single Landing Light is controlled by tailhook position thanks to a XML gauge created by Rob Barendregt. It has reflective glass, specular shine, bump maps and .dds textures. The 2D panel and VC are based on a photo and the VC has operating gauges and animated flight controls. It is painted for VF-17A assigned to the USS Saipan in 1948. How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Place files per the readme

    Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.

  3. Always read the included readme

    Had a little trouble downloading it, but was patient, and it paid off. Looks okay, fly's good. Color is a little off, looks a little to cartoonish, but a great addition to anyones stable. This pony was the first jet to land on a carrier, and is great to experience what it must have been like. I have the Ike to land on, imagine what it was like, with a carrier half that size.
