Install and use IVAO MTL in MSFS 2024 on PC, configure model matching, prevent duplicate traffic, and fix missing or incorrect aircraft.
On Windows PC, install IVAO Altitude first, then run the latest IVAO MTL installer, choose the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 target and select the aircraft and liveries you need. Start MSFS 2024 and Altitude, connect to IVAO, and MTL automatically model-matches nearby online pilots; it is not offline AI traffic.
What do you need before installing IVAO MTL?
IVAO MTL requires the Windows PC version of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the IVAO Altitude client and a compatible MTL package. It cannot be installed on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro because those consoles do not run the external Altitude and MTL software.
Multiplayer Traffic Library (MTL) supplies the aircraft models and liveries used to depict other IVAO pilots. Altitude connects the simulator to the network and injects that traffic; MTL alone does nothing offline. Our IVAO account, client and online-flying guide covers the wider setup if Altitude is not already working.
How do you install IVAO MTL in MSFS 2024?
- Run MSFS 2024 once: let the simulator complete its initial setup, reach the main menu, then close it. This helps external installers detect the active simulator installation.
- Install IVAO Altitude: obtain the supported client through your IVAO account's software area. Finish its installation before adding MTL.
- Close the simulator and Altitude: installing or updating models while either program is reading them can leave an incomplete library.
- Run the IVAO MTL installer: select Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, or the Microsoft Flight Simulator target explicitly documented as compatible with it. Do not select an FSX or Prepar3D library merely because MSFS 2024 is missing.
- Keep the detected location: allow the installer to manage its model files and simulator registration. MTL is not a normal aircraft mod that should be manually extracted into the
Communityfolder. - Choose the model coverage: a broad aircraft and airline selection reduces generic fallbacks, while a selective installation saves storage. If space permits, we recommend covering the common airliners, regional aircraft, business jets and general-aviation types used in your region.
- Complete and verify the installation: allow any model index or registration process to finish, then restart the computer if the installer requests it. Use the same installer later to add liveries, update models or repair the library.
If the installer offers no compatible MSFS target, stop rather than forcing files into a guessed folder. Update Altitude and the MTL installer, confirm MSFS 2024 has been launched at least once, and rerun detection.
How do you use MTL when flying on IVAO?
MTL works automatically once Altitude is connected to both MSFS 2024 and the IVAO network.
- Disable duplicate traffic sources: turn off MSFS live traffic, built-in AI aircraft and multiplayer aircraft before connecting. Keep the online data services you want for streamed scenery or weather; those are separate from displayed traffic.
- Start at a parking position: load your aircraft at a stand or ramp rather than spawning on an active runway.
- Open Altitude: confirm that it has established a simulator connection before attempting to join IVAO.
- Enter accurate aircraft details: use the proper ICAO type code, callsign and airline information in your flight plan. Your entry controls how other pilots' MTL installations represent your aircraft.
- Connect to IVAO: nearby network aircraft should appear through Altitude using the closest model and livery available in your local MTL library.

How does IVAO model matching choose an aircraft?
Altitude compares each remote pilot's network data with the models installed in your MTL library, then uses the best available match.
| Available network data | Expected MTL result |
|---|---|
| Exact ICAO aircraft type and installed airline livery | Matching aircraft and operator repaint |
| Correct aircraft type but unavailable livery | Correct type with a generic or substitute repaint |
| Unavailable aircraft variant | Closest suitable model or configured fallback |
| Incorrect or incomplete remote flight-plan data | Generic, unsuitable or unexpected aircraft |
MTL normally represents other network users, not your own aircraft. A wrong model is therefore not always an installation fault: the remote pilot may have filed an incorrect type code, or the exact model and repaint may not exist in your selected library.
Why are IVAO aircraft missing, white or duplicated?
Most MTL faults come from an incomplete model installation, a lost Altitude connection or another traffic source running at the same time.
- No aircraft appear: confirm that Altitude is connected to the simulator and that IVAO traffic is actually nearby. Repair the MTL installation if Altitude lists nearby pilots but MSFS depicts none of them.
- Aircraft are generic or the wrong type: update or expand your installed model selection. If only one remote aircraft is wrong, its network type or livery data is the more likely cause.
- Aircraft are white or invisible: rerun the MTL repair or update process, then restart MSFS so it can rebuild its model inventory. Security software blocking installer files can also produce an incomplete library.
- Every aircraft appears twice: disable MSFS live traffic, multiplayer aircraft and any separate traffic injector. Our guide to MSFS 2024 traffic injectors and duplicate traffic explains which traffic sources should not run together.
- The simulator stutters in busy airspace: reduce Altitude's displayed traffic range or aircraft limit if those controls are available in your client build. Large IVAO events can inject far more aircraft than an ordinary flight.
- The installer cannot find MSFS 2024: launch and close the simulator, update the IVAO software, then retry automatic detection. Do not point an old installer at the
Communityfolder or reuse an FSX/P3D MTL library.
