What is the best KLAX scenery for MSFS 2020 and 2024?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Compare the best KLAX scenery for MSFS 2020 and 2024, with our top payware pick, default option, compatibility checks and performance fixes.

For the best paid KLAX scenery in Microsoft Flight Simulator, we recommend iniBuilds Los Angeles International Airport: it offers the strongest mix of terminal modelling, airside detail and atmosphere. Keep the default KLAX if frame rate, simplicity or console availability matters more, and verify explicit MSFS 2024 support before installing any MSFS 2020 package.

Which KLAX scenery should I choose?

Choose iniBuilds KLAX for the most convincing airport experience, or stay with the included airport when reliability and performance take priority. FeelThere KLAX is a viable alternative, but it is not our first choice on detail alone.

Our ranking favours airside accuracy and atmosphere rather than texture resolution alone. At KLAX, readable taxi signs, correctly positioned stands, working jetways and sensible night lighting matter more during normal operations than highly detailed areas visible only from a close external camera.

Does MSFS 2020 KLAX scenery work in MSFS 2024?

An airport made for MSFS 2020 is not automatically guaranteed to work correctly in MSFS 2024. Many packages can load, but compatibility depends on the developer's exclusions, terrain work, object libraries and installer. Look for an explicit MSFS 2024 compatibility statement covering the exact product edition.

If separate 2020 and 2024 builds are supplied, install only the matching build. Do not keep both editions in the Community folder, and never run two complete KLAX replacements together. That is a common cause of doubled terminals, overlapping jetways, sunken aprons and conflicting taxi signs.

MSFS 2024 also handles scenery and streamed world data differently. Our explanation of how scenery differs between MSFS 2024 and 2020 covers the visual and compatibility context without assuming that every older add-on is broken.

On Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, third-party scenery must be available through the simulator's own Marketplace or content system; manually downloaded Community packages are for PC. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was never released on PlayStation, so PS5 users need a KLAX edition approved for MSFS 2024 on that platform.

What should you check before buying KLAX scenery?

The depicted airport layout should come before decorative detail. Los Angeles International has undergone extensive construction, so every scenery package represents a particular stage of the airport rather than an endlessly live model.

  • Taxiways and signs: Check whether the product's update notes mention layout revisions. Old pavement or sign positions can make simulator ATC and external flight plans difficult to follow.
  • Aircraft stands: Wide-body users need suitable gate spacing, jetway alignment and enough room for pushback.
  • Performance: Detailed terminal geometry, interiors, apron clutter and glass can increase CPU and GPU load, particularly with dense AI traffic or in VR.
  • Platform support: A PC listing does not guarantee Xbox or PS5 availability, and the words “Microsoft Flight Simulator” alone do not confirm MSFS 2024 compatibility.
  • Airport boundary: KLAX scenery usually improves the airport, not the whole Los Angeles basin. For approaches and VFR flights, our freeware package restoring missing downtown Los Angeles buildings and landmarks can improve the skyline separately.

How do you fix duplicate buildings or stutters at KLAX?

Most broken KLAX installations are caused by duplicate airport packages, an outdated build or excessive traffic settings. Test the airport in isolation before blaming the simulator or replacing unrelated add-ons.

  1. Remove other KLAX replacements. Search the Community folder and in-simulator content library for old freeware, trial copies, Marketplace editions and regional airport packs that modify KLAX.
  2. Install the correct simulator build. Use the vendor's dedicated MSFS 2024 package when one is supplied; do not copy it over an older 2020 installation.
  3. Test without Los Angeles enhancements. Temporarily disable city, mesh and global airport packages. Add them back one at a time once KLAX loads correctly.
  4. Reinstall cleanly if textures are missing. Pink checkerboards, invisible objects or an airport that stops loading often indicate incomplete or mixed package files. Delete the old copy before downloading it again.
  5. Reduce traffic before texture quality. At a hub such as KLAX, AI aircraft and airport vehicles can produce heavy main-thread load. Lower those first, followed by Object Level of Detail if stuttering remains. Reduce texture resolution mainly when video memory is the constraint.

Clear or rebuild the rolling cache only if stale ground imagery or elevation remains after removing conflicts. It does not normally repair doubled buildings created by two active airport packages.

Is payware KLAX worth it over the default airport?

Payware KLAX is worthwhile for simmers who regularly fly airliners from Los Angeles, spend time taxiing and parking, or value detailed night operations. iniBuilds is our preferred upgrade for that use. The difference is less valuable when KLAX is merely an arrival point viewed briefly from the cockpit.

Keep the default airport for occasional flights, systems with limited performance headroom, or platforms where the preferred add-on is unavailable. A stable default KLAX with smooth traffic is a better operational choice than a highly detailed airport that stutters on short final.
