Where can I download German airport scenery for FS2004?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Download German airport scenery for FS2004, including Bremen EDDW and AFCAD2 updates, with clear advice on compatibility, installation and conflicts.

You can download German airport scenery add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 (FS9) from Fly Away Simulation’s freeware library. Start with a complete visual airport such as Bremen EDDW; for corrected gates, parking and AI traffic at other German airports, use compatible AFCAD2 files after checking each package’s scenery requirements.

Which German FS2004 airport scenery can I download?

For a visible airport overhaul, download a complete scenery package; for operational improvements at several airports, choose an AFCAD2 file or collection.

Focused AFCAD2 updates are also available for airports including Düsseldorf EDDL, Leipzig-Halle EDDP and Westerland-Sylt EDXW. These downloads reflect the layout and scenery available when their authors created them. Berlin-Tempelhof, for example, is an intentionally historical FS2004 destination rather than a representation of modern German aviation.

Should I download full scenery or an AFCAD2 file?

Choose full scenery for new buildings and visual detail; choose AFCAD2 when you mainly need corrected runways, taxiways, gates, parking and AI behaviour.

Download typeBest used whenMain limitation
Full airport sceneryYou want custom terminals, objects, textures and an upgraded airport environmentMay conflict with another scenery package covering the same airport
AFCAD2 for default FS2004You want better parking and AI operations without replacing the whole airportUsually adds little or no new visual modelling
AFCAD2 for named add-on sceneryYou already have the exact base scenery specified by the authorRunways, gates and buildings may be misaligned over the default airport

An AFCAD file is not a miniature scenery package. A common mistake we see is installing one and expecting new terminals to appear. Its main job is to define airport geometry, frequencies, parking and AI traffic positions.

How do I install German airport add-ons in FS2004?

Follow the included documentation because complete scenery and standalone AFCAD files are not always installed in the same place. Our detailed FS2004 scenery installation instructions cover the full Scenery Library procedure.

  1. Extract the archive: Do not attempt to run the scenery while it is still inside a ZIP file.
  2. Read the requirements: Confirm that the download is for FS2004 and determine whether it needs default scenery or a named German airport package.
  3. Preserve the folder structure: Full packages commonly contain separate Scenery and Texture folders. Add the correct parent folder to the FS2004 Scenery Library. For a standalone AFCAD, follow its readme rather than guessing where the BGL belongs.
  4. Set the priority: Place the airport above broader regional or base scenery covering the same area, then restart FS2004 and inspect the airport.

Why does the German airport look unchanged?

An unchanged airport usually means the package is an AFCAD-only update, the scenery layer is inactive or FS2004 is pointed at the wrong folder level.

  • No new buildings: Confirm that the download is full scenery rather than an AFCAD layout.
  • Nested folders: Check that the active library entry leads to the folder containing Scenery, not to an extra wrapper folder above it.
  • Missing textures: Keep the supplied Texture folder beside its corresponding Scenery folder unless the documentation says otherwise.
  • Wrong base airport: An AFCAD designed around another German airport product can appear offset when used with default FS2004 scenery.
  • Duplicate layouts: Two active AFCAD files for one ICAO can produce misplaced AI aircraft, duplicate parking, conflicting taxiways or incorrect runway use.

Can I install several German airport add-ons together?

Yes, separate German airports can normally coexist, but only one add-on airport layout should control each ICAO code.

Watch for overlapping collections: both packs above include Munich and Stuttgart. If a complete airport package supplies its own AFCAD, move the redundant layout file outside every active scenery folder and retain it as a backup. Do not delete or alter FS2004’s default scenery BGL files to solve an add-on conflict.
