Enable DLSS in Train Sim World on PC, choose the right quality mode, and fix missing, greyed-out or blurry DLSS settings.
To enable DLSS in Train Sim World, use a Windows PC release that includes native DLSS and an NVIDIA RTX graphics card. Open Settings, enter the advanced Graphics or Display options, select NVIDIA DLSS as the upscaler, choose a quality mode, apply the change, and restart the simulator if requested.
DLSS is unavailable on PlayStation and Xbox, even when the console offers its own resolution or performance modes. Our guide to Train Sim World platform differences explains which editions run on PC and consoles.
How to turn on DLSS in Train Sim World
- Confirm that the game and GPU support it. DLSS requires an NVIDIA RTX graphics card and a Train Sim World edition or build with native DLSS integration. A GTX, AMD or Intel GPU will not expose the NVIDIA DLSS option. Check our Train Sim World PC hardware guidance if you are unsure about the rest of your system.
- Update the simulator and graphics driver. Install the available game updates and a suitable NVIDIA driver, then restart Windows. An old build may lack the option or fail to recognise the upscaler correctly.
- Use your monitor's native output resolution. Set Train Sim World to the resolution you actually want displayed, such as 1920 × 1080, 2560 × 1440 or 3840 × 2160. DLSS controls the lower internal rendering resolution itself, so manually reducing the output resolution usually produces a softer image.
- Open the advanced graphics settings. Look for an option named
Upscaler,Upscaling MethodorNVIDIA DLSS. Menu wording and position can differ between Train Sim World releases. - Select DLSS and a quality mode. Start with Quality. Use Balanced or Performance only when the GPU still cannot maintain the frame rate you need.
- Apply and test the setting. Restart Train Sim World if prompted, then compare the same route, weather, cab view and station area. Changing the test scene makes performance comparisons unreliable.
Do not try to force DLSS through the NVIDIA app when it is absent from Train Sim World's menus. The driver cannot add the necessary game integration to an unsupported edition.
Which DLSS mode should I use?
DLSS Quality is the best starting point because it preserves cab displays, overhead wires and distant signals better than the lower-resolution modes.

At 1080p, Performance mode renders from too little source detail for many cab displays and signal edges. Move back to Quality before lowering unrelated graphics settings.
Why is the DLSS option missing or greyed out?
Missing DLSS usually means Train Sim World does not recognise compatible hardware or the installed game edition lacks native support.
- You are using a console edition: DLSS is a Windows PC option, not a PlayStation or Xbox setting.
- The GPU is not an NVIDIA RTX model: NVIDIA GTX, AMD and Intel cards cannot use DLSS, although another upscaler may be available.
- The Train Sim World release is too old: owning an RTX card does not add DLSS to an earlier executable that never included it.
- The integrated GPU is active: on a hybrid-graphics laptop, assign Train Sim World to the high-performance NVIDIA GPU in Windows and restart the game.
- The driver or game build is outdated: update both before editing configuration files.
- Graphics settings are corrupted: restore the graphics options to their defaults, restart, and check again before making individual changes.
Forcing a different DirectX mode or pasting unofficial configuration commands is not a reliable way to create the option. Those changes can introduce crashes or shader stutter without providing functional DLSS.
Should I enable DLSS frame generation as well?
Frame generation is a separate option and should be enabled only after ordinary DLSS Super Resolution gives an acceptable base frame rate.
All RTX families can use compatible DLSS Super Resolution implementations, but NVIDIA frame generation requires newer RTX hardware; multi-frame generation is more restricted again. If Train Sim World does not show a separate Frame Generation control, the installed combination of game build, GPU and driver does not support it.
Generated frames can make motion look smoother, but they do not speed up the underlying simulation. Disable frame generation if controls feel delayed or if duplicated edges appear around signals, wipers, overhead wires or HUD elements.
Why has DLSS not improved Train Sim World performance?
DLSS helps only when the graphics card is the limiting component; it cannot remove a CPU bottleneck, asset-streaming pause or frame-rate cap.
- Busy stations remain slow: traffic, passengers and scenery can make Train Sim World CPU-limited, leaving little benefit from a lower rendering resolution.
- The frame rate stops at a fixed number: check VSync and any frame-rate limiter. DLSS may reduce GPU load without raising a capped frame rate.
- Stutters remain: shader compilation and asset streaming are different problems from GPU rendering load.
- The picture looks blurred: return to the monitor's native output resolution, select Quality mode and avoid combining DLSS with an unusually low render scale.
- Fine objects shimmer or ghost: update the driver, use Quality mode and test with frame generation disabled.
When Train Sim World is CPU-limited, reducing view distance, shadow load or the number of active services may help more than switching from DLSS Quality to Performance.
