Free jet aircraft add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator are available in our MSFS freeware aircraft and mods library, including airliners, regional jets and military aircraft. On PC, choose a complete aircraft marked for MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024, not merely a livery. Xbox and PlayStation cannot install website downloads through a Community folder.
Where are the free ones, and are there any others?
Free jets are spread across civil-aircraft, military-aircraft and aircraft-enhancement listings rather than limited to one short recommendation list. Search using the exact manufacturer and model designation, then read the package description before downloading.
- Civil jets: airliners, business jets and regional aircraft.
- Military jets: fighters, trainers, bombers and experimental types.
- Enhancements: systems or cockpit upgrades for an aircraft already installed.
- Free MSFS planes generally: the same library also covers propeller aircraft, helicopters and gliders.
If you only want free ones, check the dependency list as well as the download itself. A file may be freeware but still require a paid aircraft, a particular simulator edition or another base package. “Only these?” is also a common misunderstanding: one model page may contain several liveries, while completely different jets appear elsewhere in the civil or military listings.
Is there a free A320 jet for MSFS?
Yes—the FlyByWire A32NX is a free, systems-focused A320neo project for PC, but you must use a build explicitly supported by your version of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Search for A320, A320neo or A32NX rather than “jet 320”, which can produce unrelated results. Also check the aircraft supplied with your simulator edition: an included A320 costs nothing extra, although it is bundled content rather than a separately downloaded freeware add-on.
The A32NX adds considerably more systems depth than a simple repaint or exterior model. Compatibility and installation requirements differ between MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024, so consult our comparison of free airliner add-ons and their requirements before choosing a package. It cannot be sideloaded onto a console.
Where can I find a free military jet?
Free military jets are available for PC, ranging from straightforward conversions to fighters with custom cockpits, displays and flight models.
Our shortlist of freeware fighter jets with compatibility guidance covers types such as the Rafale, F/A-18 and F-22. Check whether each download is a complete aircraft, an improvement for an existing model or only a repaint.
Names and screenshots do not indicate systems depth. Some freeware fighters reuse default avionics or cockpit components, and visible missiles or other stores do not necessarily function; Microsoft Flight Simulator is not a combat simulator.
Is the download a complete jet or just a livery?
A complete aircraft appears as a selectable jet, while a livery only adds paintwork to a compatible aircraft already installed.

A mistake we see repeatedly is downloading a repaint and then looking for a new aircraft in the selection screen. Look for terms such as complete aircraft, standalone, base aircraft required and livery only. Even a standalone jet may depend on components listed by its developer.
Will the free jet work with my MSFS version and platform?
A freeware jet is usable only when its package supports both your simulator generation and your platform.
Will an MSFS 2020 jet work in MSFS 2024?
An MSFS 2020 package should be treated as compatible with MSFS 2024 only when its description or documentation says so. Similar package structures do not guarantee that custom avionics, cockpit controls, sounds or flight-model features will work correctly.
An incompatible jet may still appear in the aircraft menu, then show blank displays, missing textures or inoperative controls. Confirm whether the listing names MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024 or both, and check that your simulator edition contains any default aircraft used as a dependency.
Can I get free MSFS jets on Xbox or PlayStation?
Xbox and PlayStation cannot install aircraft downloaded from a website, even when the file itself is free.

If you want a free one on Xbox, check the aircraft already included with your edition and any zero-cost content offered through the simulator. A PC ZIP package will not work. MSFS 2020 was never released on PlayStation; MSFS 2024 launched on PS5 and PS5 Pro on 8 December 2025.
I can’t find the jet after installing it—what went wrong?
A missing aircraft is usually caused by an unextracted archive, the wrong Community folder, excessive folder nesting or an unmet dependency.
- Confirm what you downloaded: verify that it is a flyable aircraft rather than a livery, AI model, sound pack or enhancement.
- Extract the archive: MSFS does not load an aircraft directly from a ZIP or another compressed file.
- Locate the package root: the actual package folder normally contains files such as
manifest.jsonandlayout.json. - Check the folder depth: the intended structure is usually similar to
Community/JetName/manifest.json, notCommunity/DownloadName/JetName/manifest.json. If the archive contains several package folders, follow its instructions rather than flattening them indiscriminately. - Use the active Community folder: its location varies with simulator version, installation method and any custom packages path. MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 do not share the same active folder automatically.
- Install every named dependency: this may include a base aircraft, shared library or content supplied only with a particular simulator edition.
- Remove duplicate versions and restart MSFS: older copies can cause loading conflicts, missing textures and blank displays. Then clear aircraft-selection filters and search for the model’s displayed name.
What if the jet appears but its cockpit screens are blank?
Blank displays usually indicate an unpowered cold-and-dark cockpit, a missing dependency, a package conflict or incompatible avionics code.
First test the aircraft from a runway start with the engines running; this separates a normal electrical state from a broken installation. If the displays remain blank, verify dependencies, remove older copies of the same aircraft and recheck the stated MSFS version before reinstalling.
How do I choose a safe, worthwhile freeware jet?
A dependable freeware aircraft has clear version support, documented dependencies and an honest description of what is—and is not—modelled.
- Choose a complete aircraft when you want a new selectable jet with its own model and cockpit.
- Choose an enhancement when you already own the required aircraft and want deeper systems or improved behaviour.
- Choose a livery only when you want new paintwork for the exact matching model.
- Avoid supposed “free” copies of commercial aircraft; these may be unauthorised, unsafe or incomplete.
- Be cautious if instructions demand that you overwrite core simulator files. Normal Community packages are designed to remain separate from official content.
- Scan downloaded archives and run an installer only when the listing clearly explains why one is required.
