Where should I look for free MSFS jets?
A category dedicated to jets is the quickest place to compare complete aircraft, repaints and enhancement packages without sorting through unrelated scenery and utilities. Civil categories cover airliners and regional jets, while military sections are better for fighters, bombers and experimental aircraft.
For a systems-focused airliner, the free FlyByWire A32NX package provides a complete A320neo base model, detailed systems, an EFB and SimBrief integration. Other freeware jets range from wide-body airliners to regional aircraft, but their system depth varies considerably.
Freeware does not automatically mean a basic aircraft, nor does an impressive screenshot prove that a download includes a flyable model. Read the description and required-files section before committing to a large download.
Is the download a complete aircraft or just a livery?
A complete jet includes the aircraft model and the files needed for it to appear as a selectable aircraft; a livery only changes the paintwork of an existing model.

A mistake we see constantly is installing a repaint and then searching the aircraft-selection screen for a new jet. Look for wording such as complete aircraft, standalone model or base aircraft required. If a specific aircraft is listed under requirements, install that model first.
Will MSFS 2020 jet add-ons work in MSFS 2024?
An MSFS 2020 jet should be treated as compatible with MSFS 2024 only when its description or developer documentation says so. Some packages work in both simulators, but shared package formats do not guarantee that custom avionics, cockpit interactions, sounds or flight-model features will behave correctly.
- Check whether the download explicitly names MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024 or both.
- Confirm that your simulator edition includes any default aircraft used as a dependency.
- Read the package notes for known issues after simulator updates.
- Do not judge compatibility solely by whether the aircraft appears in the selection menu; test its displays, controls and engines before planning a full flight.
Can I install free jets on Xbox or PlayStation?
Externally downloaded jet add-ons are for the PC versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator because they must be extracted into the simulator's package structure. Xbox and PlayStation users cannot copy website downloads into a PC-style Community folder and are limited to content distributed through the simulator's console-supported channels.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is available on PC and Xbox, not PlayStation. PlayStation support applies to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PS5 and PS5 Pro.
Why does a downloaded jet not appear in MSFS?
A missing aircraft is usually caused by an unextracted archive, an extra nested folder, an unmet dependency or installation into the wrong Community folder.
- Extract the archive: MSFS cannot load an aircraft directly from a ZIP or similar compressed file.
- Check the folder depth: locate the package folder containing files such as
manifest.jsonandlayout.json. Avoid leaving that package buried inside an unnecessary wrapper folder. - Verify dependencies: install the exact base aircraft, library or edition-specific content named in the description.
- Remove duplicate versions: two copies of the same jet can cause missing textures, blank displays or loading conflicts.
- Restart the simulator: aircraft added while MSFS is running will not necessarily be detected until the next launch.
