Can't reach full throttle in FS2004? Diagnose calibration, sensitivity, duplicate axis assignments, FSUIPC conflicts and misleading power gauges.
In FS2004, a throttle that stops short of full power is usually caused by incomplete Windows calibration, low axis sensitivity, an excessive null zone, or two controls fighting over the same throttle axis. Press F4: if full power appears, the aircraft is fine and the hardware assignment or calibration needs correction.
How do I find the cause?
The F4 key separates an aircraft or engine problem from an analogue-control problem.
- Press F4 to command full throttle, then F1 to command idle. Our reference for the default F1–F4 throttle keys covers the related commands.
- Watch the cockpit lever and engine instruments. If F4 moves the lever fully forward and produces normal power, the joystick or throttle quadrant is at fault.
- Try a default FS2004 aircraft. If that works but an add-on does not, the add-on may use custom throttle, engine-management or autothrottle logic.
- Check for movement after pressing F4. If the lever reaches maximum and immediately moves back, another axis, an engaged autothrottle or a custom panel gauge is overriding the keyboard command.
How do I fix a throttle axis that stops short?
Recalibrate the device, increase axis sensitivity and give one controller sole ownership of the throttle assignment.
- Calibrate the correct device in Windows. Open the Game Controllers panel, select the throttle rather than the yoke, and confirm that its indicator reaches both ends of the range. Separate USB quadrants appear as separate devices.
- Remove duplicate assignments in FS2004. In the controls settings, inspect every connected device. Delete throttle assignments from unused joysticks, gamepads and steering controls.
- Choose the appropriate axis. Use the general
Throttle axisfor one lever controlling all engines. Use individual engine throttle axes only when separate physical levers are intended to control separate engines. - Set the response correctly. Move throttle-axis sensitivity fully or almost fully to the high end and keep the null zone at minimum. Add only a small null zone if the input jitters near an endpoint.
- Restart and test again. Older simulators do not always handle devices connected or removed while running. Connect the required controls before launching FS2004.

Could FSUIPC or another controller override the throttle?
Yes. Any live throttle axis can overwrite the F4 command, even when that controller is untouched.
If you have deliberately assigned or calibrated the throttle through FSUIPC, use either FSUIPC or FS2004 for that axis—not both. Remove the duplicate assignment and set the idle and maximum endpoints again. A noisy gamepad axis is a common culprit because it continually sends tiny inputs that replace the commanded throttle position.
For a quick isolation test, disconnect every controller except the intended throttle, start FS2004 and try again. Reconnect devices one at a time until the problem returns.
Why is engine power still low at maximum throttle?
Maximum lever travel does not guarantee that an engine gauge will show 100%.

What if only one engine will not reach full throttle?
A single lagging engine usually indicates an individual-engine axis or engine-control problem rather than general calibration.
Check that each physical lever is assigned once to the matching engine. A frequent mistake is combining the general throttle axis with separate engine axes, allowing two inputs to compete. Also compare mixture, propeller, fuel and failure settings for the affected engine before changing the main throttle calibration.
