How do I increase Prepar3D menu and interface text size?

How do I make Prepar3D menus bigger in Windows?

Windows display scaling is the safest first adjustment because it enlarges the menu bar, scenario screens and most built-in dialogue boxes without reducing the desktop resolution.

  1. Close Prepar3D completely. The simulator may not detect a DPI change while it is running.
  2. Open Windows display settings. Go to Settings > System > Display and select the monitor used for Prepar3D.
  3. Keep the recommended resolution. This is normally the panel’s native resolution and gives the clearest cockpit and scenery image.
  4. Increase Scale. Try 125% first, then 150% if the text is still uncomfortable to read. Very high or custom percentages are more likely to crop older dialogue boxes.
  5. Restart Prepar3D. Sign out of Windows as well if Windows requests it or the simulator does not pick up the change.

Do not lower the desktop resolution merely to obtain larger menus unless nothing else works. It enlarges the interface, but it also makes the simulator image softer. There is no dependable, version-agnostic font-size edit to add to Prepar3D.cfg.

Can I enlarge only the text?

Windows has an accessibility text-size control, but Prepar3D versions and add-on windows do not all honour it consistently. Test that control if you want to avoid enlarging buttons and other interface elements; use regular display scaling if Prepar3D’s menu remains unchanged.

What if Prepar3D ignores Windows display scaling?

A High DPI compatibility override can make Windows scale Prepar3D even when its normal menus remain too small.

  1. Locate the real executable. Find Prepar3D.exe in the simulator’s installation folder rather than changing an installer or unrelated launcher.
  2. Open Compatibility settings. Right-click the executable, select Properties, open Compatibility, then choose Change high DPI settings.
  3. Enable the scaling override. Under High DPI scaling override, select System (Enhanced) if Windows offers it.
  4. Apply and test. Check the main menu, scenario interface and a built-in dialogue box. If nothing changes, repeat the test with System.
  5. Undo a faulty override. Remove it if buttons are clipped, mouse clicks no longer align with controls or the 3D view becomes unacceptably soft.

Change one setting at a time. Combining custom Windows scaling, a compatibility override and a reduced resolution makes it difficult to identify which setting caused a problem.

Why is the larger interface blurry or cropped?

Blur usually comes from non-native resolution or bitmap scaling, while cropping normally means the chosen scale is too large for an older fixed-size dialogue.

  • Blurry menu text: restore the monitor’s recommended resolution, try System (Enhanced), or remove the compatibility override and rely on normal Windows scaling.
  • Cropped buttons or panels: reduce scaling by one step and avoid custom percentages.
  • No visible change: confirm that you changed the monitor displaying Prepar3D, restart the simulator and verify that the override was applied to Prepar3D.exe.
  • Different sizes across monitors: Windows can assign separate scaling percentages to each display. Move Prepar3D to the intended monitor and restart it there.

Will this enlarge cockpit and add-on text?

Windows scaling primarily changes menus and desktop-style interface elements; it does not universally enlarge cockpit labels, instruments or every add-on window.

  • Virtual-cockpit labels are usually part of the aircraft textures or rendered displays. Camera position, view zoom, texture resolution and the aircraft itself determine their readability.
  • Two-dimensional panels may have their own resizing or zoom controls.
  • Add-on interfaces can use a separate executable or their own font setting. Apply a compatibility override to that executable only if its documentation and behaviour justify it.

A mistake we see often is raising Windows scaling repeatedly because one cockpit display remains small. Once the Prepar3D menu itself is comfortable to read, treat unreadable gauges or add-on windows as separate issues.
