How do I install and manage MSFS 2024 add-ons on Xbox?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Install and manage MSFS 2024 Xbox add-ons through Marketplace and My Library, with fixes for missing content, streaming, compatibility and updates.

On Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 add-ons must be acquired through the in-simulator Marketplace. Buy or claim an Xbox-compatible product, open My Library, then enable, download or stream it as offered. External ZIP files, USB packages, PC installers and Community-folder mods cannot be used.

Install an add-on from the MSFS 2024 Marketplace

Use Marketplace to acquire the product and My Library to control it.

  1. Use the correct account. Sign in with the Microsoft/Xbox account that will own and use the add-on. Home Xbox sharing does not guarantee that another profile will receive an in-simulator entitlement.
  2. Check the Marketplace listing. Confirm support for Xbox and MSFS 2024, not merely PC or MSFS 2020. Look for required aircraft, simulator editions or base packages; our guide to checking add-on aircraft support on Xbox explains the main compatibility traps.
  3. Buy or claim the item. Free products must still be claimed to attach them to your account. If confirmation is delayed, check the transaction and library before paying again.
  4. Open My Library. Clear active filters, show all owned content and select the product.
  5. Install or enable it. Use the available Install, Download or Enable action. An owned and enabled item without a download button may be streamed by MSFS 2024 instead.
  6. Complete the queue and restart. Let local downloads finish, then fully quit and reopen the simulator. Quick Resume may retain an old Marketplace session and fail to refresh a new entitlement.

Labels vary between packages and simulator builds. Individual products are managed inside MSFS 2024 and usually do not appear separately under the Xbox Manage game and add-ons screen.

Where do installed aircraft, liveries and scenery appear?

Add-ons appear where their content is used; most do not receive a separate main-menu tile.

Content typeWhere to find it
Aircraft or helicopterOpen Free Flight and check the aircraft selector. Clear filters or search by manufacturer or model.
Aircraft liverySelect its required parent aircraft, then choose the livery or variant. A livery is not a separate aircraft.
AirportSearch the world map by airport name or ICAO code. The add-on version loads when a flight starts there.
Regional or city sceneryFly to the covered area; scenery normally loads automatically.
Utility, effect or activityCheck the listing for its toolbar panel, aircraft dependency or activation method. Free Flight support does not guarantee Career mode support.

How do I manage installed Xbox add-ons?

Enable, disable, update or remove individual products through My Library inside MSFS 2024.

Control or statusMeaning and use
EnabledThe package may load or be streamed when required. Leave this selected for content you use.
DisabledThe licence remains owned, but the package cannot load. Use this to test crashes, duplicate airports and other conflicts.
DownloadStores the package locally when available, reducing repeated streaming and helping on limited connections.
RemoveDeletes the local copy without surrendering ownership. The item remains in your library.
UpdateApplies an available package revision. Check this after simulator updates or when content stops working.

Streaming is normal in MSFS 2024. Enabled content does not always occupy permanent storage like a conventional Xbox game add-on, although its first load can take longer on a slow connection.

Why is my MSFS 2024 add-on missing or not working?

Missing content usually results from an account mismatch, library filter, unfinished download, unmet dependency or stale Marketplace session.

  1. Confirm the account and purchase. Use the profile that acquired the product. Family sharing may not transfer the entitlement, while child-account purchasing restrictions can prevent checkout.
  2. Reset My Library filters. Show all owned products rather than only downloaded, enabled or aircraft-specific content. Do not repurchase an item merely because it is absent from the aircraft selector or world map.
  3. Check compatibility and dependencies. Verify Xbox and MSFS 2024 support, then enable any required aircraft, edition or base package.
  4. Finish updates and downloads. Update the simulator and package, inspect the queue and leave enough storage for local content. If a download remains queued, check the Xbox connection, restart the simulator, then cancel and retry it.
  5. Check online services. Marketplace licensing and streamed content require a working connection with the simulator's online functionality and data services enabled. If the entire Marketplace fails to load, the fault is broader than one add-on.
  6. Quit MSFS 2024 completely. Avoid Quick Resume while testing a new licence or package state.
  7. Test recent add-ons individually. Disable the newest product first, especially another version of the same airport or an aircraft modification. Safe Mode deliberately suppresses third-party content, so add-ons remain absent there.
  8. Remove and restore the package. Reinstall the individual product if that action is offered. Reinstalling the whole simulator should be the last resort.

Do not clear Xbox reserved space as an early fix. It can remove cached simulator data and trigger large downloads without repairing an account or Marketplace entitlement.

Can I install downloaded ZIP mods on Xbox?

No. Xbox does not expose the MSFS Community folder, extract add-on ZIP packages, install mods from USB storage or run external installers. Our explanation of why the Community folder is unavailable on Xbox covers the difference from PC installation.

Not every Xbox add-on costs money. Compatible no-cost packages can be claimed through Marketplace; use our guide to finding free MSFS 2024 Xbox add-ons rather than attempting to sideload PC freeware.

Do MSFS 2020 Marketplace purchases work in MSFS 2024?

Some MSFS 2020 Marketplace purchases transfer when both simulators use the same Microsoft/Xbox account, but eligibility is decided per product.

  • The publisher must provide an MSFS 2024-compatible version.
  • The package must support Xbox rather than PC only.
  • Liveries and expansions may still require their original aircraft or base package.
  • Content tied to a higher simulator edition remains dependent on that edition.
  • A revised 2024 release may have separate upgrade or entitlement terms.

An eligible product may appear automatically in My Library, require an update or remain unavailable until its publisher supports it. Products bought outside the in-simulator Marketplace on PC do not become Xbox entitlements. Follow our MSFS 2020-to-2024 compatibility checks before buying a missing product again.

Do Xbox add-ons work offline?

Only packages stored locally can avoid being fetched from the cloud, and not every product offers a download control. Even with local add-ons, MSFS 2024 depends heavily on online licensing, streamed world data and other services, so downloading a package does not make the complete simulator offline-capable.
