Free MSFS 2024 Xbox add-ons exist, but console rules limit what works. Learn where to find them and why PC freeware cannot be installed.
Yes, but the choice is limited. On Xbox, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 can use free aircraft, scenery, liveries and other extras only when they are distributed through the simulator’s Marketplace or official content system with Xbox compatibility. Ordinary PC freeware, ZIP packages and Community-folder mods cannot be installed on the console.
Which free MSFS 2024 add-ons work on Xbox?
Xbox players can use no-charge content that Microsoft or an approved publisher has made available for the console. This can include official updates, promotional packages and Marketplace products listed as free.
| Type of add-on | Works on Xbox? |
|---|---|
| Official free simulator content | Yes, when delivered through the simulator’s content system |
| Free Marketplace item marked for Xbox | Yes |
| Marketplace item marked for PC only | No |
| Website download or ZIP package | No |
| Community-folder mod | No |
The free selection is much smaller than on PC because every Xbox product must be packaged and distributed for the console. A free livery may also require a particular aircraft, so check the dependency before claiming it.
How do I find free add-ons on Xbox?
- Open the in-sim Marketplace while signed into the Microsoft or Xbox account used for MSFS 2024.
- Browse or search by price and look for products marked as free. Filter for Xbox compatibility if that option is shown.
- Check the product page for MSFS 2024 and Xbox support. A PC-compatible listing is not automatically available on console.
- Claim the item using the same account that runs the simulator.
- Check your content library to confirm that it is available and enabled. Some MSFS 2024 content is streamed rather than installed as a conventional local package.
The precise Marketplace and library labels can move between simulator updates, but the rule remains the same: Xbox add-ons must come through Microsoft Flight Simulator’s approved console distribution system. Why is a free Xbox add-on missing?
A claimed add-on usually fails to appear because it is incompatible, disabled, tied to another account or dependent on content you do not own. Check these points before reinstalling the simulator:
- Confirm that the listing explicitly supports Xbox and MSFS 2024.
- Use the same Xbox profile that claimed the package.
- Check whether the content is enabled in the simulator’s library.
- Install or enable any required base aircraft.
- Restart the simulator after claiming or updating the package.
- Check the network connection if the Marketplace, licence or streamed content cannot load; MSFS 2024’s internet and offline limitations affect add-on access.
Copying a downloaded package to USB storage will not solve the problem. Xbox does not expose the PC Community folder, and changing the console’s storage location does not enable sideloading.
Can I install Fly Away Simulation freeware on Xbox?
No. Files from our freeware aircraft, scenery and add-on library that require manual installation are PC packages. Xbox cannot open or install them, even when the underlying add-on is free.
If access to large community freeware libraries is your priority, choose the PC version of MSFS 2024. Choose Xbox when you prefer controlled installation and are satisfied with free official content plus the smaller selection of console-approved Marketplace add-ons.
