Install World Updates in MSFS 2024 through Marketplace and My Library, choose streaming or download, and fix missing scenery or stuck packages.
To install a World Update in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, update the simulator first, open the in-sim Marketplace, claim the free regional package, then install or download it from My Library. Confirm every included component is enabled. MSFS 2024 may stream scenery, but a local download is more reliable and uses storage.
Install a World Update in MSFS 2024
World Updates are installed from inside the simulator, not copied into the Community folder. They are optional regional packages and are separate from mandatory Sim Updates.
- Update the base simulator. Before looking for regional content, complete the platform update and any in-simulator content downloads. An older build may not display or accept newer packages.
- Check that MSFS 2024 is online. Sign in with the account you normally use for the simulator, confirm online services are available, then open the Marketplace from the main menu.
- Find the correct World Update. Search for
World Updatefollowed by the country or region. Select the official Microsoft package rather than similarly named third-party scenery. - Claim the package. Select the free, get or add-to-library control shown on your platform. If it already says owned or in your library, the entitlement has been claimed.
- Open My Library. Clear any filters hiding owned or uninstalled products, select the World Update and choose Download or Install. Some interface versions start the download directly after the package is claimed.
- Check the included components. If the bundle exposes separate airports, points of interest or regional packages, make sure the components you want are installed and enabled. Owning the bundle does not always mean every component is stored locally.
- Let the queue finish. Keep the simulator open, allow enough free storage and wait until the package reports that it is installed. If MSFS offers a choice between streaming and local storage, use the option that suits your connection and available space.
- Verify the scenery. Load a flight in the updated region. Restart MSFS 2024 if content installed during the session does not appear immediately.
Button names can differ between PC, Xbox and PlayStation builds, but the sequence remains Marketplace, entitlement, My Library and installation.
Do World Updates need to be downloaded?
MSFS 2024 can stream eligible World Update assets, so a full local download is optional where the simulator offers that choice.
| Choice | Choose it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Stream | You have limited storage and a stable, unrestricted internet connection. | Visual quality and loading can be affected by connectivity, service availability and cache data. |
| Download locally | You fly in the region regularly or want predictable access to the package's local assets. | Uses more storage and must be maintained when the package is updated. |
Downloading a World Update does not place the entire region offline. Global terrain imagery, photogrammetry and other online world services may still require an internet connection.
Why is my World Update missing or not installing?
Most failures come from an outdated base simulator, a package that was claimed but not installed, a hidden library filter or conflicting scenery.
- The update is not listed: finish all mandatory simulator updates, restart MSFS, confirm it is online and remove Marketplace or My Library filters.
- It says owned but the scenery is absent: open the package details in My Library and check the installation status of each component. Owned, enabled and installed are different states.
- A handcrafted airport is missing: verify its individual component is installed, then disable any third-party airport covering the same location. Our missing-airport checks explain how to isolate the package or scenery conflict.
- The download stops or loops: check free storage, cancel only the affected item, restart the simulator and queue that package by itself. Reinstalling the entire simulator should be a last resort.
- Content went into the wrong place: official World Updates belong in the simulator-managed packages area, not
Community. If you have moved or reinstalled MSFS, use our guide to identify the active MSFS 2024 packages location before moving anything manually. - The region still looks old or blurred: confirm online scenery services are enabled, temporarily disable overlapping add-ons and clear stale cached data. Clearing or rebuilding the rolling cache does not uninstall the World Update.
Can I copy an MSFS 2020 World Update into MSFS 2024?
Do not copy World Update folders from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 into MSFS 2024. Use the 2024 Marketplace and My Library under the entitled account, then install only the version explicitly offered for MSFS 2024; manual copying bypasses package registration and dependencies.
How do I uninstall a World Update?
Open My Library, select the World Update or its individual components, and use the uninstall or remove-local-content action shown. If streaming is available, you can switch to that instead; simply disabling a package may leave its files on the drive. The entitlement remains in your library for later reinstallation.
