See which airliners, business jets and military jets you can fly in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, including edition caveats.
Yes. Microsoft Flight Simulator includes flyable passenger, business and military jets. In MSFS 2020, familiar included choices are the Airbus A320neo, Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, Cessna Citation CJ4 and F/A-18E Super Hornet. Other jets depend on the simulator version, edition, free first-party content and installed add-ons.
Which jets are included in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?
Every updated MSFS 2020 edition provides several jets, while Premium Deluxe and free content expand the selection.
| Access | Included jets |
|---|---|
| Standard, Deluxe and Premium Deluxe | Airbus A320neo, Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and Cessna Citation CJ4 |
| Premium Deluxe | Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner and Cessna Citation Longitude |
| Free first-party updates | Airbus A310-300, Airbus A320neo V2 and F/A-18E Super Hornet |
| Top Gun: Maverick expansion | Darkstar, if the expansion is present in the installation or account library |
The Deluxe edition adds aircraft, but no extra jet beyond the Standard selection. The Darkstar is a fictional hypersonic aircraft rather than a real production jet. For the propeller aircraft and precise edition split, see our complete MSFS 2020 aircraft breakdown.
Which jets are in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?
MSFS 2024 has a broader bundled jet fleet, although the exact selection depends on the purchased edition and any content entitlements attached to the account.
- Airliners: Airbus A310-300, A320neo, A321LR, A330-200, A330-300 and A330-743L Beluga XL, plus the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 747-8 Intercontinental.
- Business and light jets: Cessna Citation CJ4, Cirrus Vision Jet and Pilatus PC-24.
- Military jets: Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II and Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet.
- Higher-edition examples: Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, Cessna Citation Longitude and specialised Boeing 747 variants.
This is the principal bundled selection rather than every historical or optional aircraft in the larger editions. Do not count aircraft such as the TBM 930, King Air, Pilatus PC-12 or Airbus A400M as jets: they use turbine engines, but their propellers make them turboprops.
Are fighter jets included?
Yes, although Microsoft Flight Simulator remains a civilian flight simulator rather than a combat simulator. The F/A-18E Super Hornet is included through first-party content in MSFS 2020, while MSFS 2024 also features the A-10; default aircraft do not provide a full weapon-employment environment.
Our breakdown of MSFS 2020 fighter jets explains the Super Hornet, Darkstar and the distinction between included aircraft and military add-ons.
Which jet should a beginner fly first?
The best first jet depends on whether the aim is airline procedure, instrument flying or simple high-speed handling.
| Goal | Choose | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Learn airline operations | Airbus A320neo | Automated systems and a manageable narrow-body cockpit make it more approachable than a heavy long-haul aircraft. |
| Learn business-jet IFR | Citation CJ4 or Vision Jet | Smaller size and simpler handling reduce the workload while retaining realistic avionics and procedures. |
| Fly fast by hand | F/A-18E | Responsive controls and strong performance suit visual flying, but speed management requires care. |
| Practise heavy-jet operations | 747-8 or 787-10 | Choose these after learning basic autopilot, flight-management and approach procedures. |
For airline flying, our step-by-step A320 procedure covers setup, take-off, autopilot use, descent and landing.
Can you add more jets to Microsoft Flight Simulator?
Yes. Add-on aircraft greatly expand the Airbus, Boeing, regional-jet, business-jet and military selection; our civil jet add-on library for MSFS provides a useful starting point.
On PC, aircraft may be installed through the in-simulator Marketplace or as compatible Community-folder packages. Xbox and PlayStation users cannot install external Community-folder mods, so their additional aircraft must come through supported in-simulator distribution. MSFS 2020 is limited to PC and Xbox, while MSFS 2024 is also available on PlayStation 5.
Why is an included jet missing?
A missing jet usually indicates an edition, installation or compatibility issue rather than its removal from the simulator.
- Check the edition: the 787-10 and Citation Longitude, for example, are not part of every package.
- Inspect installed content: open the simulator's content manager or library and confirm that the aircraft or associated expansion is installed and enabled.
- Remove filters: clear aircraft-type, favourite and activity filters in the aircraft selector.
- Check compatibility: an MSFS 2020 add-on does not automatically work correctly in MSFS 2024, and PC Community packages cannot be used on consoles.
- Do not rely on multiplayer models: seeing another pilot represented by a particular jet does not mean that aircraft is installed or flyable on your system.
