Published minimum altitudes, procedure restrictions and ATC instructions override the planning convention. On this route, selecting an excessive cruise level often produces a continuous climb followed almost immediately by descent.

Should you use a SID and STAR on this short flight?

Use a SID or STAR only when it matches the runway, aircraft capability and en-route transition; neither should be added simply to make the plan look complete. The departure and arrival can occupy much of a 125 NM sector, so incompatible transitions frequently cause loops or duplicated waypoints.

Choose the KJAX approach from the expected weather and runway configuration. An ILS or RNAV approach is suitable for instrument practice, while a visual approach may shorten the flight in good conditions.
