Play MSFS 2024 on PlayStation Portal via PS5 Remote Play. See the setup, required hardware, controller limits and fixes for lag or connection errors.
Yes. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 can be played on PlayStation Portal through PS Remote Play from a PS5 or PS5 Pro running the native PS5 edition. The Portal does not run the simulator itself: the console renders and streams it, so PS5 availability and network quality determine the experience.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched for PS5 and PS5 Pro on 8 December 2025. Our summary of Flight Simulator support on PlayStation 5 explains the release in more detail. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was never released on PlayStation, so this method applies only to MSFS 2024.
How do you set up MSFS 2024 on PlayStation Portal?
Use the Portal to connect to the PS5 on which the simulator is installed.
- Install and update MSFS 2024 on your PS5 or PS5 Pro, then launch it directly on the console once to complete any initial setup.
- Enable Remote Play under
Settings > System > Remote Playon the PS5. - Allow waking from Rest Mode under the PS5's power-saving settings if you want the Portal to start the console remotely. Enable both internet connectivity and network wake-up in Rest Mode.
- Sign in on the Portal with the PlayStation account associated with the PS5, then pair or connect to that console.
- Open MSFS 2024 from the streamed PS5 home screen as you would on a television.
Do the PlayStation Portal controls work with MSFS 2024?
The Portal sends DualSense-style input to the PS5, so the standard PS5 controller bindings work. Its touchscreen provides the touchpad functions, although those gestures can feel less precise than using a physical DualSense touchpad.
A yoke, throttle quadrant, HOTAS or rudder pedals cannot be connected directly to the Portal. For portable play, plan on using its built-in controls. Our comparison of the Xbox and PS5 console experience covers the broader hardware and control trade-offs.
The smaller display also makes glass-cockpit labels, autopilot controls and detailed instrument work harder to read. Portal play suits casual VFR flying, cruise segments and controller-based sessions; a direct display and proper flight controls remain the better choice for precise approaches or complex cockpit operation.
Why is MSFS 2024 laggy on PlayStation Portal?
Portal stuttering, soft image quality and delayed control inputs usually come from Remote Play network conditions rather than the simulator's graphics settings.
- Wire the PS5 to the router with Ethernet where possible. This leaves Wi-Fi capacity for the Portal.
- Use a strong, uncongested Wi-Fi connection on the Portal and avoid weak-signal rooms or busy public networks.
- Pause large downloads and video streams elsewhere on the network. MSFS 2024 may already be downloading world data while the PS5 streams video to the Portal.
- Check the PS5's Remote Play and Rest Mode options if the Portal cannot find or wake the console.
- Test on the home network first. If it works locally but not away from home, the likely causes are limited home upload speed, restrictive NAT or the remote network.
Some latency is unavoidable because every control input travels to the PS5 before the resulting frame returns to the Portal. That delay is most noticeable during flares, helicopter hovering and rapid cockpit interaction.
Can PlayStation Portal run MSFS 2024 without a PS5?
Not as a locally installed game because PlayStation Portal does not install or render PS5 software itself.
| Portal method | MSFS 2024 support | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Native installation | No | The Portal has no local PS5 game installation |
| PS5 Remote Play | Yes | A PS5 or PS5 Pro running the PS5 edition |
| Cloud Streaming | Conditional | An eligible subscription, supported region and MSFS 2024 catalogue eligibility |
Cloud Streaming is separate from Remote Play, and supported titles can change. If MSFS 2024 is not shown as an eligible game in the Portal's Cloud Streaming interface, a PS5 or PS5 Pro is required.
Can you use PlayStation Portal away from home?
Yes, provided the PS5 is online or configured to wake from Rest Mode and both locations have suitable network connections. Performance depends especially on the home connection's upload quality, while hotel, workplace and public Wi-Fi may block or destabilise Remote Play.
