How do I set up FSUIPC with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Set up FSUIPC7 in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, verify SimConnect, install optional WASM, assign controls and fix common connection faults.

To set up FSUIPC with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, install the latest FSUIPC7 build on your Windows PC, enable its optional WASM module only if your add-ons need it, launch MSFS 2024, then start FSUIPC7 and confirm it reports a simulator connection. Configure each control in one system only to prevent duplicate inputs.

Which FSUIPC version works with MSFS 2024?

FSUIPC7 is the version intended for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and 2020. Older releases such as FSUIPC4, FSUIPC5 and FSUIPC6 target earlier simulators and will not provide the correct MSFS 2024 connection.

Use the FSUIPC7 installer from our FSUIPC package and installer notes. An unregistered installation is generally sufficient when another application only needs FSUIPC data access; control assignments, calibration, profiles and other user facilities may require a registered licence.

What you want to doWhat you need
Connect a compatible external applicationFSUIPC7; an unregistered installation is often sufficient
Assign axes, buttons or aircraft profiles in FSUIPCFSUIPC7 user facilities and, where required, a registered licence
Use Lvars, Hvars or calculator-code presetsFSUIPC7 plus its optional WASM component
Run FSUIPC on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5Not supported; FSUIPC7 is a Windows companion application

How do I install and connect FSUIPC7?

  1. Close MSFS 2024. This lets the installer update its files and optional Community package without the simulator holding anything open.
  2. Extract the complete download. Do not run the installer from inside the compressed archive, because support files may then be missing.
  3. Run the FSUIPC7 installer. Confirm that it detects Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and retain its recommended standalone installation folder. FSUIPC7.exe is an external application and does not belong in the simulator's Community folder.
  4. Choose whether to install the WASM component. Install it if an aircraft, control preset or utility requires Lvars, Hvars or calculator-code access. If the installer cannot find the correct package location, use our guide to identify MSFS 2024's active Community folder.
  5. Complete registration if applicable. Enter the licence details exactly as issued. Otherwise, finish the installation in unregistered mode for compatible applications that only use FSUIPC as an interface.
  6. Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Load the main menu or a flight, then start FSUIPC7 manually. You can enable the installer's automatic-start option later, but manual launching is easier while confirming that the basic connection works.
  7. Check the connection. Open the FSUIPC7 status or log and verify that it has connected to MSFS rather than repeatedly waiting for the simulator. A separate legacy SimConnect installation is not normally required because MSFS supplies its own SimConnect interface.

Do I need the FSUIPC WASM module?

The WASM module is needed only for functions that go beyond ordinary SimConnect and offset access. Many external flight-planning, logging and hardware applications work without it.

  • Install WASM when an add-on specifically mentions Lvars, Hvars, calculator code or FSUIPC presets.
  • Leave it out when your application only reads or writes standard FSUIPC offsets and SimConnect events.
  • Remember that the Community package does not replace FSUIPC7.exe; the Windows application must still be running.

If variable-based controls are missing, verify that the WASM package is in the Community folder used by the active MSFS 2024 installation, then restart both the simulator and FSUIPC7.

How should I configure controls through FSUIPC?

Assign each axis or button in either MSFS 2024 or FSUIPC7, not both. Duplicate throttle, mixture, brake or flight-control bindings are a common cause of jumping levers, oscillating axes and commands that fire twice.

  • Use Send to FS as normal axis when the aircraft accepts standard simulator axes and its own calibration system should remain in control.
  • Use Send direct to FSUIPC Calibration when you specifically want FSUIPC's calibration ranges, dead zones or response handling.
  • For complex airliners with throttle detents or custom events, follow the aircraft's prescribed assignment and calibration method. Do not stack Windows calibration, FSUIPC calibration, MSFS sensitivity changes and an aircraft tablet calibration unless the aircraft documentation requires them.
  • Create aircraft-specific profiles when different aeroplanes need different events or axis behaviour.

Our step-by-step FSUIPC control-assignment guide covers axes, buttons, profiles and the duplicate-binding checks in more detail.

Why isn't FSUIPC7 connecting to MSFS 2024?

Most connection failures come from an outdated FSUIPC7 build, the wrong executable, security software blocking it or FSUIPC starting before MSFS is ready.

  1. Confirm the version. Make sure you installed FSUIPC7 rather than an older FSUIPC release, and update it if MSFS 2024 is not detected by the installer.
  2. Start it manually. Load MSFS first, then run one copy of FSUIPC7. Remove obsolete automatic-start entries if they launch another copy from an old folder.
  3. Check security software. Restore any quarantined FSUIPC files and allow the application to run. Local SimConnect use does not normally require opening internet-facing ports.
  4. Match privilege levels. Run both applications normally unless a specific add-on requires administrator rights. Mixed privilege levels can interfere with keyboard commands and interaction between applications.
  5. Read FSUIPC7.log. The log in the FSUIPC installation folder shows whether it found MSFS, established SimConnect and loaded the optional WASM interface.

If the log remains on connection retries, work through our FSUIPC connection and SimConnect checks. FSUIPC7 normally runs outside the simulator, so the absence of an MSFS toolbar icon or in-sim menu does not mean the installation failed.
