Which X52 should you buy?
Buy the X52 Pro when both units are in similar condition and the price difference is reasonable; buy the standard X52 when it is materially cheaper.
- Choose the X52 Pro if you want the best version of this particular design, value more progressive centring, or regularly fly combat aircraft and spacecraft where frequent small corrections matter.

Is the X52 Pro more accurate than the X52?
The X52 Pro can feel more controlled around neutral, but it is not a major sensor upgrade over the standard X52.
Both use non-contact sensing on the main stick axes. Throttle, twist, rotaries and other analogue controls can still develop noise or spikes as a unit ages, so “non-contact” does not mean every axis is wear-free. Neither model guarantees zero centre play.
Start with little or no dead zone and add only enough to stop genuine drift. Large dead zones and aggressive response curves often hide a hardware problem while making precise approaches, formation flying and aerial refuelling harder. Do the X52 and X52 Pro work with modern flight simulators?
Both operate as Windows USB flight controls, and their core axes and buttons can be assigned in Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane, Prepar3D, FSX, DCS World and FlightGear.
Built-in presets vary by simulator and version, so manual assignments are sometimes necessary. Test the raw controls before loading a programming profile, then check for duplicate bindings: a common mistake is leaving both twist rudder and pedals assigned, or mapping one throttle axis to several engine controls.
The three-position mode selector gains much of its flexibility from the profiling software; it may not appear as three ordinary simulator buttons. Likewise, the multifunction display does not automatically show useful aircraft data in every simulator. Treat both products as PC peripherals rather than assuming console compatibility.
What should you check before buying a used X52?
A used X52 should be judged by stable input and cable condition, not by how brightly its controls illuminate.
- Inspect the connection chain. The stick connects through the throttle, while the throttle provides the USB connection to the PC. Check the interconnect cable, plugs and sockets carefully; the stick is not a self-contained USB controller.
- Test Windows detection. Open

- Press every control. Test hats, trigger stages, pinkie switch, mode selector and throttle buttons. Confirm that one press produces one input rather than several.
- Look for intermittent faults. Ghost presses or disconnects can come from the interconnect cable, a damaged socket or an unsuitable USB hub. Test directly on another known-good PC USB port and power down before reseating the cable.
At similar prices, the X52 Pro is the stronger purchase. When the standard X52 costs considerably less and passes every input test, it delivers most of the same flight-simulation capability and is the more sensible value choice.
